Abstract

Pada proses pengolahan air bersih perkotaan yang
menggunakan air baku dari sungai, masalah yang sering dihadapi
adalah pada proses penyisihan kekeruhan. Proses koagulasi
flokulasi sebagai metode yang paling umum digunakan pada
penyisihan TSS seringkalii mengalami permasalah pada
efektifitas penggunaan bahan koagulan kimia yang berpengaruh
terhadap pH serta gangguan kesehatan pada tingkat konsumsi
yang lebih tinggi. Berdasarkan persamaan sifat dengan kitosan
yang telah ditemukan sebagai koagulan alami yang efektif, tulang
hewan sebagai sisa limbah konsumsi berpotensi menjadi
alternatif baru sebagai koagulan alami.
Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga jenis tulang hewan, yaitu tulang
ayam, tulang sapi, dan tulang ikan. Pembuatan ekstrak tulang
hewan dilakukan berdasarkan metode pembuatan kitosan,
melalui 3 tahap yaitu deproteinasi, demineralisasi dan deasetilasi.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hasil bahwa tulang hewan tidak
mampu mendestabilisasi koloid dan membentuk flok.
Berdasarkan uji FTIR, pada tulang hewan tidak ditemukan gugus
amina yang memegang peranan penting dalam proses koagulasi
dan flokulasi.

The most complex problem in process of treating clean water in
urban area is about turbidity removal. Coagulation flocculation is
the most common method which is used to solve this problem. In
the other hand, adding chemical coagulant in this process causes
health problems in advance level and also give significant impact
for pH level. Animal bones is a potential innovation as it has the
similar characteristic as chitosan which is found as natural
coagulant based on its active protein.
This experiment is using three kind of animal bones; chicken
bones, cow bones, and fish bones. Following the method of
chitosan extraction, coagulant formation from animal bones are
processed by three steps; deproteination, demineralization, and
deasetilation.
Based on te result of jartest analysis and also FTIR test, animal
bones is not found as an effective coagulant. It’s caused by nonactive
amina which has important function for flocs formation.
