Abstract

AISI 1340 merupakan salah satu jenis baja paduan rendah
yang memiliki komposisi kimia 0,43% C, 1,76% Mn, 0,035% P
(max), 0,04% S (max), 0,27% Si. Aplikasi dari baja AISI 1340
digunakan dalam komponen kereta api yaitu friction wedge.
Dalam hal ini, friction wedge berfungsi sebagai damper/peredam
kereta, sehingga harus mempunyai sifat kekerasan dan ketahanan
aus yang tinggi.
Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan heat treatment interrupted
quenching dimulai dengan pembentukan material menjadi bentuk
spesimen uji impact dan uji keausan, dan dilakukan pemanasan
dalam furnace hingga temperatur austenisasi 830 °C dengan
waktu tahan 2 jam. Setelah proses austenisasi spesimen
dikeluarkan dari dalam dapur dan ditahan di udara dengan
masing-masing variasi waktu interrupted selama 5, 20 dan 30
detik untuk kemudian di quench dalam larutan pendingin oli.
Setelah proses tersebut, material diuji kekerasan, uji
metallography, uji impact dan uji keausan.
Hasil dari penelitian didapatkan bahwa spesimen dengan
variasi waktu interrupted 20 detik adalah waktu interrupted yang
tepat. Hasil pengujian impact dan kekerasan menghasilkan
peningkatan impact strength dan peningkatan kekerasan tertinggi
yaitu dengan kenaikan 24,97 % dan 65,22 %. Berdasarkan hasil
uji keausan, keseluruhan permukaan spesimen tidak aus
seluruhnya, hanya pada tepi spesimen. Sehingga, pada pengujian
keausan perlu dievalusi lebih lanjut.

AISI 1340 is one kind of low alloy steel which have a
chemical composition of 0.43% C, 1.76% Mn, 0.035% P (max),
0.04% S (max), 0.27% Si. For applications from AISI 1340 steel
friction wedge in train component. For this case, the function of
friction wedge is for the damper of the train, so that must be have
a hardness and high hardness characteristic.
This study is done with heat treatment interrupted
quenching started with warming on furnace until austenite
temperature 830 °C with 2 hours’ time. And then from the
austenite temperature the specimen taken out from the furnace
and held in the air with each time interrupted variety for 5, 20,
and 30 second and then quenched on the cold liquid in this case is
oil. After that process, the hardness test, metallography test,
impact test, and wear test is given to the materials.
The result of this study is the specimen with 20 second
interrupted time variety is the best interrupted time. The result of
impact and hardness shown increasing of strength impact and
hardness, highest value is 24, 97 % and 65, 22 %. According to
the hardiness result, all of the specimen surface is not hardiness at
all, just on the sides of the specimen. So in the hardiness result
need more study and evaluation again.
