Abstract

Paduan Mg-Ca-Zn merupakan paduan yang banyak diteliti
sebagai bahan implan tulang. Sebagai bahan yang akan
diaplikasikan sangat penting untuk mempelajari sifat korosinya
sehingga perlu dilakukan penelitian terhadap sifat korosi dengan
media yang mirip dengan cairan tubuh. Simulated body fluids
(SBF) merupakan cairan yang komposisinya hampir sama dengan
plasma darah. Penelitian sifat dan laju korosi ini dilakukan dengan
menggunakan sampel paduan magnesium yang telah dibuat pada
penelitian sebelumnya. Pengujian korosi dilakukan dengan metode
ponsiostat dan morfologi permukaan sampel diamati dengan
menggunakan SEM/EDX. Perubahan pH larutan diamati setiap 4
jam pada saat sampel direndam selama 48 jam dalam larutan SBF.
Dari hasil pengujian korosi diketahui bahwa semakin besar
penambahan TiH2 maka semakin meningkatkan laju korosinya
dengan nilai tertinggi dimiliki oleh sampel T550/3 sebesar 0,1969
mm/yr . Perendaman mengakibatkan turunnya laju korosi dengan
nilai laju korosi terendah terdapat pada sampel T/550 sebesar
0,00007 mm/yr. Produk korosi yang dihasilkan memiliki
kandungan tertinggi berupa unsur Mg dan O yang merupakan
unsur utama Mg(OH)2 serta Cl yang berasal dari larutan SBF.

Mg-Ca-Zn alloy is a kind of biodegradable material that is
extensively studied for its suitability as metallic implants. Therefore
it is important to investigate the nature of corrosion of this material.
Corrosion rate measurements using potentiostate method were
conducted on Mg-Ca-Zn alloys that were obtained from previous
study. Prior to corrosion rate measurement, samples were immeresed
in Simulated Body Fluid (SBF) for 48 hours. Changes in pH was
monitored every four hours. It was found that corrorion rate increase
along with TiH2 addition. Highest corrosion rate i.e. 0,1969 mm/yr
was observed on sample T550/3. Immersion in SBF resulted the
decrease in corrosion rate. Lowest corrosion rate i.e. 0,00007 mm/yr
was observed on sample T/550. SEM-EDX analysis revealed that
corrosion products were dominated by Mg and O which were the
main constutient of Mg(OH)2. In addition, Cl which came from SBF
was also found as corrosion products.
