Man’s high dependence on electrical appliances affects on the increasing demand of
energy, especially electrical one. Unfortunately, it is not equal with the produced electricit y
growth rate.
The unequal growth not only impacts on the periodical utility outage but also the
increasing usage of non-environmentally energy sources. For a small scale, installing standby
generators might benefit households and offices. However, usage on bigger scale or
nationwide might increase the construction of power plants using non-renewable resources.
Based on Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ energy development roadmap,
Indonesian government targeted to produce 10,000 MW derived from a steam-electric power
station which built in 2 phases. Energy from steam-electric power station is commonly
produced by using coal and natural gas. Note that neither of those fuel sources are renewable
ones. Furthermore, it is well-known that coal has environmental hazards.
Therefore, it is necessary to exercise the solution for energy saving in planning and
development, particularly on key built environments for sustainable human life.
