Abstract

Aerodynamic forces at the vehicle likes drag and lift are important parameters to evaluation aerodynamic of a body. Each body design specific purpose to reduced drag and increase the negative lift (downforce). This condition meet a challenge in term of saving fuel, further driving distance, and better driving performance. The large drag predominance of pressure different between frontal and rear pressure body (pressure drag). This phenomena be important proceed of rear body pressure more large than frontal body pressure. The huge vehicles such as a buses must be have high power to rising up this losses as compared with other vehicle model. A modification have been doing such as four-channel diffuser on the rear bus body to reduced that disruption. This experiment will be doing with a bus model to known influence concerning flow characteristic on rear body. The four channel diffuser performance will be improved with ground clearance variation (c/L = 0.04 ; 0.05 ; 0.06) when velocity of free stream is 18 m/s (Re = 6,67 x 105) angle of diffuser is 80 . The expectance result is to know four-channel diffusers performance before and after this device tall on the rear bus body with optimum ground clearance and to looks the aerodynamic forces effect. The result of this experiment shows that bus model with four-channel diffusers at c/L = 0,04 has turbulent intensity (IT) highest is 5,968% and able to reduced drag until 2,16% than standard model
