Abstract

Penelitian ini difokuskan pada nilai angka iodin pada biodiesel
waste cooking oil dan pengaruhnya terhadap performa motor
diesel. Angka iodin atau iodine number merupakan suatu besaran
untuk mengukur derajat ketidakjenuhan dalam asam lemak.
Eksperimen performa motor diesel adalah menggunakan tipe
Yanmar dengan bahan bakar campuran biodiesel B20 dan B30
dari waste cooking oil dengan metode penambahan zat iodin
resublimed. Penambahan zat ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan
angka iodin yang berbeda-beda. Berdasarkan hasil analisa angka
iodin, maka diperoleh angka iodin dari biodiesel waste cooking oil
sebesar 6,347g/100g. Hasil analisa uji performa motor diesel
meyimpulkan bahwa angka iodin mempengaruhi peningkatan
performa motor diesel. Semakin besar angka iodine maka daya
yang dihasilkan akan semakin besar. Peningkatan daya ini adalah
antara 0.1 – 0.25 kW. Kemudian, prosentase dari biodiesel juga
mempengaruhi performa motor diesel. Dari hasil analisa performa
motor diesel tersebut, prosentase biodiesel B30 memiliki performa
lebih baik daripada prosentase biodiesel B20.

The focus of research is iodine number in biodiesel of waste
cooking oil and its influence on diesel engine performance. Iodine
number is the value to measure the amount of unsaturation of
fatty acids. The experiment of engine perfonmance is used engine
of Yanmar type with B20 and B30 biodiesel fuel from waste
cooking oil with increasing the addition of iodine resublimed. The
purpose of the addition is to get the difference of iodine number.
Based on the analisys result, the iodine number of biodiesel fuel
from waste cooking oil is 6.347g/100g. The result of diesel engine
performance analisys is the iodine number could influencing the
diesel engine performance. More rising the iodine number has
been increasing the power output of diesel engine. The increase is
between 0.1 – 0.25 kW. The composition of biodiesel is also
influencing the engine performance. Based on the engine
performance analisys, B30 fuel has better performance than B20
fuel
