Abstract

Penggunaan bahan bakar fosil sebagai satu-satunya sumber energi tentunya akan meninggalkan banyak masalah bagi manusia di masa depan, khususnya dampak dari energi fosil terhadap lingkungan. Masalah lingkungan yang memaksa dunia untuk mempertimbangkan pengembangan energi alternatif. Energi angin adalah salah satu sumber energi terbarukan yang paling menjanjikan. Di antara sejumlah turbin angin, turbin Savonius dikenal sebagai sumber tenaga angin yang paling baik karena dapat bekerja di tip speed ratio yang rendah (Sheldahl et al, 1978). Pada prinsipnya, turbin angin Savonius bekerja dikarenakan perbedaan gaya drag yang dihasilkan oleh kedua sudunya, advancing dan returning blade. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan performa turbin angin Savonius dengan menempatkan plat penganggu di depan returning blade dari turbin. Untuk meningkatkan performa dari turbin angin Savonius yang memiliki diameter D 60 mm dan tinggi H 80 mm, plat datar yang memiliki lebar 120 mm dan tinggi 150 mm, digunakan sebagai penganggu yang diletakkan di depan returning blade dari turbin. Penganggu ini divariasikan sudutnya yaitu 0 o < θ < 90°. ======================================================================================================== The use of fossil fuels as the only source of energy will certainly leaves many human problems in the future, in particular the impact of fossil energy to the environment. The environments issues are forcing world to consider the incentives for development of alternative clean sources of energy. Wind energy is one of the most promosing sources of renewable energy. Among a number of wind turbine, the Savonius turbine is known as the most quite wind power sources because it works at lowest tipspeed ratio (Sheldahl et al, 1978). In principle, Savonius wind turbine works caused by the difference of the drag force generated by it blades, advancing and returning blade. The purpose of this study is improving the performance of Savonius wind turbine by placing a disturbance plate in front of returning blade of the turbine. In order to increase the performance of Savonius wind turbine that having a diameter D of 60 mm and height H of 80 mm, a plate having a width of 120 mm and a height of 150 mm is used as a disturbance located in front of returning blade of the turbine. This disturbance is located in a various angle of 0o < θ < 90o .
