Abstract

Turbin angin Savonius merupakan salah satu jenis turbin
yang banyak digunakan untuk memperoleh energi alternatif nonfosil
pada era krisis energi saat ini, walaupun turbin ini memiliki
performa yang rendah pada prinsipnya. Turbin Savonius bekerja
dikarenakan oleh perbedaan gaya drag yang dihasilkan oleh
sudunya, returning dan advancing blade. Tujuan dari penelitian
ini adalah untuk meningkatkan performa turbin Savonius dengan
menempatkan pengganggu berupa plat datar di depan returning
blade.
Dalam rangka meningkatkan performa turbin angin
Savonius yang memiliki diameter D 60 mm dan tinggi h 80 mm,
sebuah plat dengan lebar 69 mm dan tinggi 150 mm digunakan
sebagai pengganggu yang ditempatkan di depan returning blade
dari turbin. Percobaan dilakukan pada subsonic open circuit
wind tunnel. Peralatan ini memiliki panjang 457 mm, dengan
area uji 304 mm x 304 mm. Kecepatan aliran dari wind tunnel
dapat disesuaikan menjadi 8,83 m/s; 11,03 m/s; 13,24 m/s sesuai
dengan bilangan Reynolds Re = 6,0 x 104; 7,5 x 104; 9,0 x 104
(berdasarkan panjang setara dengan L = 2D-b, dimana b adalah
lebar overlap dari dua sudu turbin, dan kecepatan aliran ).
Kecepatan angin diukur menggunakan pitot-static tube yang
dihubungkan dengan inclined manometer. Putaran turbin diukur
menggunakan tachometer. Torsi statis diukur menggunakan
torquemeter, dan daya output didapatkan dari pengukuran
tegangan dan arus yang dihasilkan generator yang terhubung
dengan poros turbin Savonius

Savonius wind turbine is one of the type of wind turbines
that has been widely used to obtain alternative non-fosil energy in
the era of the current energy crisis, eventhought this turbine has a
low performance in principle. The savonius turbine works caused
by different of the drag force generated by its blade, returning and
advancing blade. The aims of the research is to improve the
performance of the savonius turbine by placing disturbance in the
form of plate in front of returning blade.
In order to increasing the performance of Savonius wind
turbine having a diameter D of 60 mm and height h of 80 mm, a
plate having a width of 69 mm and a height of 150 mm is used as a
disturbance located in front of returning blade of turbine. This
disturbance is located in various angle of 0°<α<90°. The
experiments were carried out in a subsonic open circuit wind
tunnel. This facility has a 457 mm long, with test section 304 mm x
304 mm. The free stream velocity of wind tunnel could be adjusted
to 8,83 m/s, 11,03 m/s, 13,24 m/s, corresponding respectively to
Reynolds number Re = 6 x 104; 7,5 x 104; 9 x 104 (based on
equivalent length of L = 2D-b, where b is the width of overlap of
the two turbine blades, and the free stream velocity). The velocity
of wind is measured using a pitot-static tube connected to the
inclined manometer. The rotation of turbine is measured by
tachometer. The static torque is measured by torquemeter, and
finally the power output of turbine is determined by measuring of
voltage and electric current resulted by generator connecting to
the shaft of Savonius turbine.
The experimental result show that the placement of flat
plate as disturbance and the various angle (0°≤α≤90°) in front of
the returning blade Savonius wind turbine can improve the
performance of wind turbine Savonius. It is based on the increase
of rotation from turbine as 274% and coefficient of power (CoP) is
1668% on the Reynolds number 6 x 104 on various angle α = 40°
relative to its value when the savonius turbine without any
disturbance. The static torque (T) is increase up to 255% on the
Reynolds number 9 x 104 on various angle α = 0°.
Hasil eksperimen menunjukkan bahwa penempatan plat
datar pengganggu dan variasi sudut (0° ≤ α ≤ 90°) di depan
returning blade turbin angin Savonius dapat meningkatkan
performa turbin angina Savonius. Hal ini berdasarkan dari
kenaikan putaran dari turbin sebesar 274% dan coefficient of
power (CoP) yaitu 1668% pada bilangan Reynolds 6 x 104 pada
variasi sudut α = 40° dibandingkan terhadap data yang
dihasilkan turbin Savonius tanpa pengganggu. Torsi status (T)
mengalami kenaikan hingga 255% pada bilangan Reynolds 9 x
104 pada variasi sudut α = 0°
