Abstract

Pemanfaatan pasir besi dan bijih besi lokal sebagai bahan mentah pembuatan besi dan baja belum optimal. Secara umum pasir besi diolah dengan metode reduksi langsung untuk meningkatkan kadar besi. Reduksi berlangsung pada temperatur di bawah titik leleh dengan bantuan reduktan. Hasilnya berupa sponge iron yang digunakan sebagai pengganti besi scrap pada industri besi dan baja. Review penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh reduktan arang dan batu bara terhadap kadar Fe total pada hasil reduksi. Penelitian ini menggunakan data sekunder dari beberapa penelitian yang sudah ada kemudian dilakukan analisis berdasarkan teori. Bahan penelitian yang digunakan berasal dari dalam negeri seperti Solok, Lampung, dan beberapa kabupaten di Pulau Jawa. Reduksi menggunakan alat yang berbeda-beda diantaranya muffle furnace, burner las asitelin, dan rotary kiln. Dengan temperature reduksi di atas 900oC Reduksi menggunakan arang didapatkan hasil kenaikan kadar Fe rata-rata 12,67%, sedangkan untuk batu bara kenaikan rata-rata Fe sebesar 15,66%. Dalam review penelitian ini, batu bara lebih baik dalam mereduksi besi oksida karena kenaikan kadar Fe total yang lebih tinggi.

The utilization of local iron sand and iron ore as raw material is not optimum yet. Commonly iron sand processed with a direct reduction method to the increasing level of Fe. Reduction occurs at a temperature under a melting point conducted with a reductant. Product is sponge iron that use to substitute iron scrap in the iron and steel industry. This paper, review analysis effect of charcoal and coal as reductant towards total Fe content in reduction product. This paper using secondary data from another paper that already did, then analyzed based on theory. Raw materials used domestic materials such as Solok, Lampung, Jepara, Sukabumi, Lumajang, Kendal, Batang and Pemalang. Sub-bituminous coal form Binuang, South Borneo, and coal are from Jombang and Semarang. Reduction using a different machine such as muffle furnace, asetilin burner, and rotary kiln. Reduction temperature above 900oC. Reduction using charcoal known that the escalation of Fe content is the average 12,67%. Meanwhile, reduction using coal escalate of Fe content about 15,66% on average. In this review, coal is better than charcoal as a reduction agent due to the increase of Fe content was higher.
