Abstract

Krisis energi belakangan ini menjadi isu global yang cukup mengkhawatirkan di mata dunia terutama Indonesia. Hal ini didorong oleh kenyataan bahwa kebutuhan energi semakin lama semakin bertambah. Di sisi lain, sumber energi yang tersedia saat ini jumlahnya semakin berkurang. Pemanfaatan energi non-renewable yang sudah marak, bila diteruskan bisa mengurangi jumlah energi yang tersedia di alam. Sumber daya energi konvensional seperti BBM (Bahan Bakar Minyak dan Gas Bumi) tidak lagi dapat dianggap sebagai solusi jangka panjang untuk memenuhi kebutuhan energi di Indonesia. Tingginya permintaan energi di dunia industri dan juga di sektor domestik, dan masalah polusi yang diakibatkan karena meluasnya penggunaan bahan bakar fosil membuatnya semakin penting untuk mengembangkan sumber energi terbarukan. Sumber energi terbarukan ini diharapkan menjadi solusi energi jangka panjang dengan dampak lingkungan yang lebih kecil daripada energi konvensional. Salah satu sumber energi terbarukan yaitu energi biogas. Energi biogas adalah energi hasil konversi dari limbah manusia atau limbah organik lainnya yang dapat membentuk gas metana. Biogas ini dapat dijadikan sebagai energi alternatif karena proses pembuatan dan pemeliharaan pada pembangkit biogas yang sederhana dan energi yang dihasilkan bersahabat dengan lingkungan. Listrik dari pembangkit biogas dapat dimanfaatkan ke gas engine untuk keperluan pabrik sehingga mengurangi biaya bahan bakar dan dapat mengoptimalkan limbah pabrik. Sumber energi biogas yang potensial untuk dimanfaatkan adalah limbah vinasse yang merupakan limbah dari produksi bioethanol PT. Enero. Semakin banyak bioethanol yang diproduksi maka akan semakin banyak pula limbah vinasse yang dihasilkan. Hal ini akan menjadi masalah bagi PT. Enero karena limbah vinasse yang dihasilkan dapat mencemari lingkungan sehingga PT Enero menambah plant untuk mengolah limbah vinasse tersebut menjadi biogas yang berupa biomethane. Produk biogas yang dihasilkan oleh PT Enero memiliki spesifikasi yaitu 61% CH4, 38% CO2, dan 1% H2S dimana CO2 dan H2S merupakan pengotor yang perlu dihilangkan. Kandungan CO2 di dalam biogas akan menurunkan nilai kalor biogas dan H2S merupakan senyawa berbahaya bagi kesehatan manusia dan lingkungan. Oleh karena itu masih perlu dilakukan proses purifikasi biogas tersebut untuk menghilangkan kandungan pengotor-pengotor dalam biogas dan menaikkan nilai kalor dari biogas. CO2 memiliki presentase terbesar di antara pengotor-pengotor lain di dalam biogas. CO2 dalam kandungan biogas merupakan penghambat atau menurunkan kadar CH4 sehingga nilai kalor dari biomethane juga menurun. Hal ini menyebabkan daya yang dihasilkan dari biomethane juga rendah. Di sisi lain, CO2 ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk pembuatan PCC (Precipitated Calcium Carbonate). Serbuk PCC dapat dimanfaatkan dalam berbagai bidang, seperti: kesehatan, makanan, dan industri. Pada bidang industri, serbuk CaCO3 dimanfaatkan dalam pembuatan kertas, plastik, mantel, tinta, cat, dan pipa polimer. Serbuk CaCO3 dengan kualitas khusus dikembangkan sebagai bahan campuran kosmetik, bahan bioaktif, hingga suplemen nutrisi. PCC dapat dibuat dengan berbagai macam metode, salah satunya metode karbonasi. Metode karbonasi yaitu kalsium oksida yang telah dikalsinasi dilarutkan dalam air (slaking process) membentuk Ca(OH)2, selanjutnya dialiri gas CO2 sampai pH mendekati netral membentuk endapan yaitu PCC. Maka dari itu, untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, dilakukan reaksi karbonasi antara biogas dengan limbah pabrik asetilen. Dari proses karbonasi ini, kandungan CO2 dalam biogas mengalami perubahan menjadi produk Precipitate Calcium Carbonate (PCC). Lokasi pabrik harus dekat dengan sumber bahan baku, sehingga proses operasi dapat terjaga kelangsungannya. Selain itu, dapat mengurangi biaya transportasi dan penyimpanan. Bahan baku utama pabrik ini adalah biogas dari PT Enero, sehingga lokasi pabrik harus berdekatan dengan PT Enero. Pabrik purifikasi biogas ini akan didirikan di Jalan Raya Gempolkerep, Kecamatan Gedeg, Kabupaten Mojokerto, Jawa Timur. Lokasi pabrik PCC juga di daerah yang sama. Bahan baku yang diambil dari PT Enero yaitu 1000 m3 biogas per jam, laterite soil Halmahera yang diperoleh dari supplier, dan limbah pabrik asetilen. Hasil produksi berupa compressed biomethane gas dapat dijual ke Pabrik Energi sebagai bahan bakar gas engine dan PCC yang dapat digunakan dalam industri sebagai filler dari pulp kertas. Proses purifikasi biogas menjadi biomethane dari limbah asetilen ada empat tahap, yaitu tahap pre-treatment limbah asetilen, tahap pre-treatment biogas, dan tahap absorbsi CO2 oleh Ca(OH)2, dan tahap kompresi biomethane menjadi compressed biomethane gas. Sedangkan, proses pembuatan PCC meliputi 4 tahap yaitu tahap thickening, filtrasi, drying, dan size reduction. Untuk dapat mendirikan pabrik Purifikasi Biogas dari Limbah Asetilen menjadi Compressed Biomethane dan Precipitated Calcium Carbonat (PCC) diperlukan total modal investasi sebesar Rp 214.059.870.697. Dari perhitungan analisa ekonomi didapat internal rate of return (IRR) sebesar 18%, pay out time (POT) 6,65 tahun dan break even point (BEP) sebesar 19,21%. Ditinjau dari aspek teknis dan ekonomis, pabrik ini layak untuk dilanjutkan ke tahap perencanaan.

The energy crisis has recently become a global issue that is quite worrying in the eyes of the world, especially Indonesia. This is driven by the fact that energy demand is increasing over time. On the other hand, the number of available energy sources is decreasing. Utilization of non-renewable energy which is already rampant, if continued, could reduce the amount of energy available in nature. Conventional energy resources such as BBM (Fuel Oil and Natural Gas) can no longer be considered as a long-term solution to meet Indonesia's energy needs. The high demand for energy in the industrial world as well as in the domestic sector, and the pollution problems caused by the widespread use of fossil fuels make it increasingly important to develop renewable energy sources. This renewable energy source is expected to be a long-term energy solution with less environmental impact than conventional energy. One of the renewable energy sources is biogas energy. Biogas energy is energy converted from human waste or other organic waste which can form methane gas. This biogas can be used as an alternative energy because the process of making and maintaining biogas plants is simple and the energy produced is environmentally friendly. Electricity from the biogas plant can be utilized to the gas engine for factory purposes thereby reducing fuel costs and optimizing factory waste. The potential source of biogas energy to be utilized is vinasse waste which is a waste from the bioethanol production of PT. Enero. The more bioethanol produced, the more vinasse waste will be produced. This will be a problem for PT. Enero, because the vinasse waste produced can pollute the environment, PT Enero added a plant to process the vinasse waste into biogas in the form of biomethane. The biogas product produced by PT Enero has specifications, namely 61% CH4, 38% CO2, and 1% H2S where CO2 and H2S are impurities that need to be removed. The CO2 content in biogas will reduce the calorific value of biogas and H2S is a dangerous compound for human health and the environment. Therefore, it is still necessary to carry out the biogas purification process to remove impurities in the biogas and increase the calorific value of the biogas. CO2 has the largest percentage among other impurities in biogas. CO2 in the biogas content is an inhibitor or reduces CH4 levels so that the calorific value of biomethane also decreases. This causes the power produced from biomethane is also low. On the other hand, this CO2 can be used for the manufacture of PCC (Precipitated Calcium Carbonate). PCC powder can be used in various fields, such as: health, food, and industry. In the industrial sector, CaCO3 powder is used in the manufacture of paper, plastics, coats, inks, paints and polymer pipes. CaCO3 powder with a special quality was developed as a mixture of cosmetics, bioactive ingredients, to nutritional supplements. PCC can be made by various methods, one of which is the carbonation method. The carbonation method is calcium oxide which has been calcined dissolved in water (slaking process) to form Ca(OH)2, then CO2 gas flows until the pH approaches neutral to form a precipitate, namely PCC. Therefore, to overcome this problem, a carbonation reaction between biogas and acetylene factory waste is carried out. From this carbonation process, the CO2 content in biogas undergoes a change to become a product of Precipitate Calcium Carbonate (PCC). The location of the factory must be close to the source of raw materials, so that the operation process can be maintained. In addition, it can reduce transportation and storage costs. The main raw material for this factory is biogas from PT Enero, so the factory location should be close to PT Enero. This biogas purification plant will be established on Jalan Raya Gempolkerep, Gedeg District, Mojokerto Regency, East Java. The location of the PCC factory is also in the same area. The raw materials taken from PT Enero are 1000 m3 of biogas per hour, Halmahera's laterite soil obtained from suppliers, and acetylene factory waste. The production results in the form of compressed biomethane gas can be sold to Pabrik Energi as fuel for gas engines and PCC which can be used in industry as a filler of paper pulp. The process of purification of biogas into biomethane from acetylene waste consists of four stages, namely the acetylene waste pre-treatment stage, the biogas pre-treatment stage, and the CO2 absorption stage by Ca(OH)2, and the biomethane compression stage into compressed biomethane gas. Meanwhile, the process of making PCC includes 4 stages, namely the thickening, filtration, drying, and size reduction stages. To be able to establish a Biogas Purification Plant from Acetylene Waste to Compressed Biomethane and Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC), a total investment capital of Rp 214,059,870,697 is required. From the calculation of the economic analysis obtained an internal rate of return (IRR) of 18%, a pay out time (POT) of 6.65 years and a break even point (BEP) of 19.21%. From a technical and economic perspective, this plant is feasible to proceed to the planning stage.
