Abstract

Penggunaan popok bayi sekali pakai sangat tinggi akhir-akhir ini. Popok bayi terdiri dari lapisan-lapisan penyusun, yaitu lapisan atas, akuisisi, inti, dan lapisan luar. Pada lapisan inti terdapat bahan penyerap utama yang disebut Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP). Penggunaan SAP pada popok bayi sangat dibutuhkan. Akan tetapi, saat ini belum ada pengelolaan yang baik terhadap sampah popok tersebut. Hal ini menyebabkan ketidaksetimbangan dalam lingkungan dan lambat laun akan mencemari lingkungan. Kemampuan serap SAP sangat kuat, sehingga air yang sudah terserap susah untuk terlepas kembali. Salah satu cara untuk melepaskan kembali air yang terserap oleh SAP adalah adanya penambahan garam-garam higroskopis terhadap SAP. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menentukan penambahan garam higroskopis yang optimum agar air yang terserap oleh SAP dapat terlepas kembali ke lingkungan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan uji pendahuluan terhadap SAP, untuk mengetahui jumlah SAP dan garam garam higroskopis yang akan digunakan serta mengetahui laju pembengkakan (swelling rate) dari SAP. Variabel garam higroskopis yang digunakan yaitu natrium klorida (NaCl), kalsium karbonat (CaCO3), dan pupuk urea. Setelah itu, dilakukan analisis dengan program Design of Expert (DoE) 6.0.10 untuk mendapatkan nilai optimum dari data penelitian untuk masing-masing jenis garam higroskopis yang digunakan. Selanjutnya dilakukan pengukuran air yang terlepas dengan metode pengukuran langsung menggunakan gelas ukur. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah adanya pengaruh penambahan garam higroskopis terhadap pelepasan air yang terserap oleh SAP. Jumlah optimum air yang dapat terlepas oleh SAP yaitu sebesar 386,108 mL/11,45 gr NaCl. Sementara penambahan CaCO3 dapat melepaskan air dari SAP sebesar 277,106 mL/100,13 gr CaCO3. Adapun jumlah optimum air yang terlepas oleh SAP akibat penambahan urea sebesar 70,86 mL/75,13 gr urea. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan, maka dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa garam NaCl adalah garam yang paling baik digunakan untuk melepaskan air yang terserap oleh SAP. ================================================================================================================== The use of disposable baby diapers was very high lately. Baby diapers consist of constituent layers, namely the top layer, acquisition, core, and outer layers. There was a main absorbent material called Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) in the core layer. The use of SAP in baby diapers was highly needed. However, there was currently no good management of the diaper waste. This can cause imbalance in the environment and would gradually pollute the environment. SAP absorption ability was very strong, so that the water that has been absorbed was difficult to be released again. One of the way to release water that was absorbed by SAP was the addition of hygroscopic salts to SAP. This research was conducted to determine the optimum addition of hygroscopic salt so that water which was absorbed by SAP can be released back to the environment. The study was conducted with the initial test of the SAP, to determine the number of SAP and hygroscopic salt that will be used in the experiment and also to determine the swelling rate of the SAP. The kind of hygroscopic salt for this research were sodium chloride (NaCl), calcium carbonate (CaCO3), and urea. After that, the analysis by Design of Expert (DoE) 6.0.10 was conducted to determine the optimum value of the experiment data for each hygroscopic salt. Then, direct measurement of the water released was carried out using measuring beaker glass.. Based on the results, the best of on the water release from SAP occurred in addition of hygroscopic salt. The optimum number of water that could be released by SAP was 386,108 mL/11,45 gr NaCl. While the addition of CaCO3 could release water from SAP as much as 277,106 mL/100,13 gr CaCO3. Meanwhile,the optimum number of water that could be released by SAP due to the addition of urea was 70,86 mL/75,13 gr urea. Based on the experiment, NaCl was the best salt that can release water which is absorbed by SAP.
