Abstract

Surfaktan atau zat aktif permukaan merupakan senyawa kimia yang memiliki aktivitas permukaan yang tinggi karena terdiri atas gugus lyophobic dan gugus lyophilic. Karena struktur ini juga, surfaktan mampu menurunkan tegangan permukaan dua bahan sehingga memungkinkan dua atau lebih material yang dalam kondisi normal tidak saling bercampur menjadi bertendensi untuk bercampur menjadi homogen. Gliserol Monooleat (GMO) merupakan salah satu jenis surfaktan yang dapat diaplikasikan dalam berbagai industri, misalnya pada industri makanan, kosmetik, cat, oli, plastik, dan pengeboran minyak sebagai Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). Hingga saat ini, kebutuhan GMO di Indonesia yang besar tidak diimbangi dengan kemampuan produksinya, sehingga kebutuhan GMO dipenuhi dengan cara impor. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan perancangan pabrik GMO dari gliserol dan asam oleat dengan kapasitas produksi 12.000 ton/tahun. Perancangan pabrik ini dimaksudkan untuk memenuhi 90% kebutuhan GMO di Indonesia. Direncanakan pabrik ini akan didirikan di Kawasan Industri Dumai, Riau dengan pertimbangan ketersediaan bahan baku. GMO umumnya disintesis dari produk oleokimia yang bersumber dari tumbuhan, yang mana merupakan sumber daya yang dapat diperbaharui. Hal ini jelas menguntungkan dibandingkan dengan surfaktan jenis lain yang umumnya disintesis dari turunan minyak bumi dan gas alam yang tidak ramah lingkungan dan tidak dapat diperbaharui. GMO dapat dibuat melalui reaksi esterifikasi antara gliserol dan asam oleat atau dapat pula melalui reaksi transesterifikasi antara gliserol dan triolein. Pada perancangan pabrik ini, dilakukan seleksi untuk pemilihan proses yang terbaik dalam segi teknis dan operasi. Selanjutnya terpilih proses esterifikasi dengan tiga tahap utama, yaitu Pre-Treatment, reaksi esterifikasi, dan pemurnian. Dari perhitungan analisa ekonomi, didapatkan IRR sebesar 47,57%, POT sebesar 4,36 tahun, dan BEP sebesar 24,79%. Investasi pendirian pabrik berasal dari modal sendiri sebesar 40% dan oinjaman bank sebesar 60%. Secara keseluruhan dari segi teknis dan ekonomis, Pabrik Gliserol Monooleat layak untuk didirikan. ================================================================================================================== Surfactants or surface-active agents are chemical compounds that have high surface activity because they consist of lyophobic groups and lyophilic groups. Because of this structure, the surfactant can reduce the surface tension of the two materials so that it allows two or more materials that do not normally mix to become homogeneous. Glycerol Monooleate (GMO) is a type of surfactant that can be applied in various industries, for example in the food, cosmetics, paint, oil, plastics, and oil drilling industries as an Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). Until now, the large demand for GMOs in Indonesia has not been matched by production capabilities, so that GMO needs are met by import. In this research, a GMO plant from glycerol and oleic acid was designed with a production capacity of 12,000 tons/year. The plant design is intended to meet 90% of GMO needs in Indonesia. It is planned that this factory will be built in the Dumai Industrial Zone, Riau with the consideration of the availability of raw materials. GMOs are generally synthesized from oleochemical products of plant base, which are renewable resources. This is clearly advantageous compared to other types of surfactants which are generally synthesized from petroleum and natural gas derivatives which are not environmentally friendly and non-renewable. GMOs can be made through the esterification reaction between glycerol and oleic acid or it can also be through a transesterification reaction between glycerol and triolein. In designing this plant, a selection is made to select the best process in terms of technical and operational aspects. Furthermore, the esterification process was selected with three main stages, namely pre-treatment, esterification reaction, and purification. From the calculation of the economic analysis, the IRR is 47.57%, POT is 4.36 years, and BEP is 24.79%. 40% of the investment for the factory construction comes from its own capital and 60% from bank loans. Overall, from a technical and economic point of view, the Glycerol Monooleate Factory is feasible to establish.
