Abstract

Hidrogen merupakan salah satu gas yang memiliki banyak fungsi seperti
agen sintesis senyawa organik , reaktan dalam proses hydrocracking, hidroalkilasi,
dan hidrodesulfurisasi dalam industri petrochemical, reaktan proses hidrogenasi
lemak dalam industri food and beverages, agen reduktor dalam industri material,
produksi metanol, pembuatan silikon dan masih banyak lagi. Oleh karena itu proses
pemurnian hidrogen sangat penting. Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) merupakan
cara yang paling sering digunakan dalam memurnikan hidrogen. Hasil kemurnian
hidrogen dalam PSA dipengaruhi oleh jumlah bed, jenis adsorben yang digunakan
serta tekanan operasinya. Pemurnian hidrogen dengan unit PSA dapat dipermudah
menggunakan software Aspen Adsorption. Dalam penelitian ini disimulasikan
dengan 2 dan 4 bed dengan jenis adsorben silica gel, karbon aktif, dan zeolite serta
tekanan operasi yang divariasikan antara 2 hingga 34 bar. Hasil simulasi
menunjukkan bahwa sistem PSA dengan 2 bed untuk adsorben karbon aktif/ silica
gel pada tekanan 7 bar diperoleh kemurnian hidrogen tertinggi sebesar 99,92%
sedangkan kemurnian hidrogen sebesar 99,99% menggunakan adsorben karbon
aktif pada 4 bed PSA dengan tekanan operasi 4 bar. Penelitian ini menggunakan
data industri seperti PT Pertamina Cilacap untuk memurnikan hidrogen yang
menghasilkan 87,92% pada tekanan 8 bar dengan adsorben molecular sieve pada 2
bed PSA

Hydrogen has various functions in chemical industries, as an agent of
organic compounds synthesis, a reactant in hydrocracking, hydroalkelation, and
hydrodesulfurization process in petrochemical industry, a reactant in hydrogenated
fat process, a reductant agent in material industry, methanol production, silicon
manufacture, and many more. Therefore, hydrogen purification is very important
process for the industry processes. Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) is commonly
used hydrogen purification process. It is developed into the multi-bed process with
combination of different adsorbent in every column at a step pressure equalization.
Purification of hydrogen by PSA can be simulated using Aspen Adsorption
software. This study simulated 2 and 4 beds PSA process with various type of
adsorbent, those are silica gel, activated carbon, and zeolite with variation of
pressure from 2 to 34 bar. Simulation results showed that 2 beds PSA using
combination of activated carbon and silica gel at 7 bar gave the highest purity of
99.92% hydrogen, while 4 beds PSA using activated carbon as an adsorbent gave
highest purity of 99.99% hydrogen at 4 bar. This study used industry data such as
hydrogen purification process from PT Pertamina Cilacap and the result gave purity
of 87.92% hydrogen at 8 bar using molecular sieve adsorbent in 2 beds PSA
