Abstract

CO gas is a poisonous gas that is harmful to human health. To prevent any adverse effects of toxic gases CO required a sensor that has a high sensitivity to changes in the concentration of CO gas. Steps used in this final project is to synthesis tungsten trioxide (WO3) from tungsten heksaklorida precursor (WCl6) using the method of sol - gel and used as thin film and spin coating method followed calcination process. The characterization test of sample used the XRD analysis, SEM and BET. In testing the sensitivity, the sensor is inserted into a chamber to determine the change resistance which occurs when samples are in the air and also when the sample exposed to CO gas. From the test results obtained that the optimum sensitivity the sensor material of tungsten trioxide thin films obtained at calcination temperature of 500oC, with a temperature sensor at 200oC and concentration of 200 ppm CO. This is influenced by the structur and the surface area and also size of the crystals at a temperature of 500oC based on the results of DTA / TGA.
