Abstract

Piston biasanya dibuat dari paduan aluminium melalui proses pengecoran. Peningkatan sifat mekanik paduan aluminium dapat dilakukan melalui proses precipitation hardening. Penelitian ini menggunakan paduan aluminium dengan komposisi 12,7% Si; 1,27% Cu; 1,3% Mg (Al 336). Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis perubahan sifat kekerasan dan struktur mikro setelah perlakuan artificial aging dengan variasi temperatur dan waktu tahan. Langkah pertama yaitu pengecoran aluminium 336 dan dilanjutkan heat treatment T6 (solution heat treatment dan artificial aging). Solution heat treatment dilakukan pada temperatur 520οC selama 8 jam, selanjutnya diquenching pada media air hangat. Artificial aging dilakukan pada temperatur 130οC, 170οC, dan 210οC dengan waktu tahan 6, 9, dan 12 jam. Selanjutnya dilakukan pengujian kekerasan, metalografi, XRD, dan SEM. Hasilsuji metalografi, XRD, dan SEM menunjukan perlakuan artificial aging akan membentuk presipitat Mg2Si yang dapat mempengaruhi nilai kekerasan. Pengujian kekerasan menunjukan peningkatan pada temperatur aging 130οC dan 170οC serta penurunan pada temperatur aging 210οC (overaged). Nilai kekerasan optimum didapatkan pada temperatur aging 170οC dengan waktu tahan 12 jam yaitu 189,67 HB. ============================================================================================ Pistons are usually made of an aluminum alloy. Efforts to improve the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy can be made through the process of precipitation hardening. This study used an aluminum alloy with a composition of 12,7% Si, 1,27% Cu, 1.3% Mg (Al 336). This study analyzes changes in the hardness properties and microstructure after artificial aging treatment with variations in temperature and holding time. The first step is aluminum 336 casting and continued with T6 heat treatment (solution heat treatment and artificial aging). Solution heat treatment was carried out at 520°C for 8 hours, then quenched in hot water. Artificial aging is carried out at 130°C, 170°C, and 210°C withholding 6, 9, and 12 hours. Furthermore, the hardness, metallographic, XRD, and SEM tests were carried out. Metallographic, XRD, and SEM test results showed that artificial aging treatment would form Mg2Si precipitates, affecting the hardness value. Hardness testing showed an increase in the aging temperature of 130°C and 170°C and decreased the aging temperature of 210°C (overaged). The optimum hardness value was obtained at the aging temperature of 170°C with a holding time of 12 hours, which was 189.67 HB.
