Abstract

Energy demand on the island of Kalimantan is predicted to increase as soon as the status of Kalimantan Island is determined as the location of the new capital city of Indonesia. With the application of the philosophy of capital city development by the government, supply of energy demand is required to use low-carbon and environmentally friendly energy sources. Therefore, a more environmentally friendly energy source is needed, where natural gas is chosen because it is low in emissions and available in large quantities on the island of Kalimantan. In this research, the study will be conducted to determine the amount of natural gas demand, the mode of transportation of natural gas from the gas source to the capital city and the optimization of the selected transportation mode. Determination of natural gas demand carried out by simulation using LEAP (Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning system) software. Determination of the type of transportation mode and distribution method used the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). While the optimization in this study analyzed using the Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) method with Kruskal's Algorithm. The results showed that natural gas demand was 4,238.26 MMSCF in 2025, 23,039.14 MMSCF in 2035 and 53,390.37 MMSCF in 2045. AHP analysis results showed that the gas piping system was chosen as the mode of delivery of natural gas to the capital city, with a total weight of 0.666. The results of the optimization of the gas piping system resulted in the minimum pipe length for the Sepaku area of 31.15 km, Samboja 85.11 km and Muara Jawa 24.92 km. The total investment cost required is approximately US$ 148.239.000.
