Abstract

The ocean, covering 2/3 of the earth, is an abundant source of renewable energy. The ocean has energy that is divided into several forms, such as thermal energy, kinetic energy (waves and currents), and in the form of chemical and biological products. Many technologies that can be used to harness the energy in the oceans have been suggested and developed. One of them is the Ocean Wave Energy Converter - Pendulum System (PLTGL-SB). With the significant wave height and wave period that occurs, the maximum amount of electric power that can be generated is 10,2 kilowatts for the Sukamade location, and 11,2 kilowatts for the Alas Purwo location, with power generated for a year for each location of 658.168 kWh and 1.145.142 kWh. Maximum power occurs in December. However, in May, the power in each generating unit decreased to 1.8 kilowatts and 1.2 kilowatts. This is due to the decrease in the average wave height in the target area during the month. PLTGL-SB is not suitable to be used as a power plant that is capable of working continuously. However, it is feasible to be applied as a backup energy source from PLN.
