Abstract

The coming of new and more sophisticated investment products in the capital market, along with the expansion of investment access, has led to more and more individuals participating in the capital market. This can be seen in the trend, especially investment in Indonesia and the number of investors from year to year, the number of investors in mutual fund investments. As of January 31, 2021, 78.34% of the number of mutual funds investors are Generation Y born in 1981-1996. This phenomenon occurs because according to a survey entitled The Future of Money in 2019, 50% of creating Y save to save rather than invest. Generation Y's financial literacy rate in 2019, according to the OJK survey, was around 32.1%-33.5%. The literacy level of the younger generation Y is lower than the level of financial literacy in Indonesia, which is 38.03%. However, the investment behavior of Generation Y changed in 2020 with the dominance of a significant number of investors in mutual fund investment instruments. Mutual funds are a safe investment choice for Generation Y because Generation Y has not yet accumulated the wealth of Generation X and Baby Boomers, is managed by professional managers, and investors can diversify their portfolios to face relatively low costs. With the contrast of survey data on the financial behavior of generation Y in 2019 and their financial behavior in 2020, this study was conducted with the aim of analyzing the effect of financial literacy and financial efficacy on investment decisions of generation Y mutual funds. Sampling was conducted using convenience sampling method by offering generation Y. whether they have invested in mutual funds or not. The research method is descriptive analysis and data processing using logistic regression. The results of the study indicate that financial literacy and financial efficacy have a significant effect on investment decisions for generation Y mutual funds.
