Abstract

Availability of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) is generally in the form of propagules which are considered less effective so that encapsulation technology is needed. Alginate which is often used as encapsulation coating material has viscosity stability properties that are easy to drop, so subtitution with other polymer is needed. On the other hand, agar contains carragenan which has good ability as a coating material. This study aims to determine the percent infection combination of Na-alginate and agar coating concentrations that produce a good capsule morphology. The capsules were made by dripping a suspension of Na-alginat and agar of various consentrations into a 3% CaCl.H2O solution. observation parameters included capsule morphology (color, shape, size, and texture) and percent infection. data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that the combination of the best capsule coating material concentration with a variation of 75% alginat : 25% agar produced a morphology of 5,30 mm in diameter, cloudy color, uniform shape, chewy texture, and 66% infection percent which belonged to a high infection class.
