Abstract

A mixture of Remazol Yellow and Indigosol Yellow dyes is a synthetic dye used in batik industry. These dyes can be harmful if thrown directly into the environment without further processing because they are non-biodegradable and carcinogenic. Adsorption is an effective method to reduce the concentration of Remazol Yellow and Indigosol Yellow mixed dyes. This study was used carbon from bidara arab (Ziziphus spina-chiristi) leaves as adsorbent. Adsorption was carried out by batch method with variations in contact time (20; 30; 40; 50; and 60 minutes), adsorbent mass (34; 38; 42; 46; 50; and 54 mg), initial concentration of each dyes in the mixture (17.5; 20 ; 22.5; 25; 27.5; and 30 mg/L), and pH (2; 4; 6; 8; 10; and 12). The results of the adsorption were measured for its absorbance using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer at the maximum wavelength of each dyes are 415 and 465 nm. This research was conducted in triplo with a standard deviation of <2%. The optimum adsorption conditions were obtained at a contact time of 50 minutes, adsorbent mass was 50 mg, initial concentration of each dye in the mixture was 20 mg/L, and at pH 2 with the respective removal percentage gains were 72.09; 72.09; 75.17; and 96.67% in Remazol Yellow and 90.20; 90.20; 95.46; and 100% in Indigosol Yellow.
