Abstract

Boron nitrida heksagonal (h-BN) merupakan bahan yang menarik karena memiliki banyak aplikasi untuk kebutuhan masa depan melalui sifat listrik dan magnetiknya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses modifikasi struktur material h-BN dan pengaruh modifikasi termal terhadap struktur dari material h-BN. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan bahan utama h-BN komersial dengan kemurnian 99,9% yang selanjutnya dimodifikasi secara termal pada suhu 650, 750, 850 dan 950°C serta eksfoliasi melalui proses ultra-sonifikasi dalam medium larutan Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) hingga didapatkan supernatan dan serbuk. Supernatan dan serbuk dikarakterisasi dengan XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDX, PSA dan Raman. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan bahwa proses modifikasi struktur material h-BN dilakukan dengan 2 tahap yaitu modifikasi termal (pemanasan pada suhu tertentu) dan eksfoliasi larutan melalui proses ultra-sonifikasi dalam medium larutan IPA. Serta hasil karakterisasi diketahui bahwa adanya modifikasi termal tidak merubah karakteristik h-BN sebagai material 2-dimensi seperti fasa tunggal, gugus fungsi dan morfologi, namun adanya pemanasan dapat memperkecil ukuran rata-rata partikel serta penyayatan lapisan akibat proses eksfoliasi.

Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is an attractive material that has many applications for future needs due to that electrical and magnetic properties. This research aims to understand the process of modifying structure of the h-BN material and the effect of thermal modification on the structure of the h-BN material. Here, the primary ingredient of commercial h-BN with the purity of 99,9% was thermally modified at temperatures of 650, 750, 850 and 950°C followed by exfoliating process in the medium of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) solution to get supernatants and powders of h-BN. The h-BN supernatant and powder were characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDX, PSA and Raman characterizations. Based on research, the process of modifying structure of the h-BN material is carried out in 2 phase, namely thermal modification (heating for several temperature) and exfoliation by an ultra-sonification process in IPA solution. Our results shows that thermal modification does not change the characteristics of h-BN as a 2-dimensional material such as single phase, functional groups and morphology, but it can reduce the average particle size and exfoliating layer contributed by exfoliating process.
