Abstract

Nowadays, research on intelligent vehicle technology is widely brought out. One of the most important functions that must exist on the intelligent vehicle is lane detection. The purpose of the lane detection system is to alert the driver if the vehicle is moving too close to lane boundaries, such as a white line. However, not all roads have been equipped with white lines as the lane boundaries. In this study, a method to detect lane boundaries on roads that do not have white lines as the road boundaries are proposed. Because there is no white line as lane boundaries on the road, a sharp pixel value change line between the road and the boundaries will be used. To solve this problem, canny edge detection is chosen to extract the lane boundaries feature. Then, the hough transform is used to detect edges that form straight lines. Hough transform results will be clustered using spatio-temporal incremental clustering. Meanwhile, to detect road boundaries on turning and intersections roads, the sliding window method is used then the results will be clustered using k-means clustering. Each cluster result will be line-fitted. The result of this method is an image with lines indicating the presence of lane boundaries. The results of this method in detecting straight roads get a success percentage of 94% from 1193 straight road images. Meanwhile, the testing of turns and intersection roads detection, this method can only detect 39% of the 514 images of turns and intersection roads correctly.
