Abstract

tahun.

Indonesia is a country known as an agricultural country. Almost all plants can grow on Indonesian soil, including sugar cane. Based on PTPN data, the productivity of sugarcane in Indonesia in 2014 was 6,615 Kg/Ha. %. Processing sugarcane into bioethanol can produce around 5000-6000 liters/ha. This is in accordance with the government's plan which will seek Government's efforts to encourage the use of biofuels to reduce the consumption of fuel derived from petroleum, starting with the Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 5 of 2006 which targets the use of biofuels up to 5% of total primary energy by 2025, and This was followed up by the issuance of a mandatory use of biofuels through the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 32 of 2008. This mandatory target has been continuously increased through several amendments to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation, and the most recent is the target of 30% biodiesel and 20% bioethanol from the total demand for diesel and diesel oil. gasoline in 2025 (PerMen ESDM No. 12/2015). Biofuel production in 2014 came from biodiesel, while bioethanol nationally has not been able to produce well. The development of industry in Indonesia, especially the chemical industry from year to year has increased in quality and quantity, both industries that produce finished materials and industries that produce semi-finished materials. The development of the chemical industry that produces chemical products is very important because it can reduce Indonesia's dependence on foreign industries which in turn will reduce foreign exchange expenditures to import these goods, including ethanol. Ethyl alcohol or better known as methanol (C2H5OH) is one of the most important organic chemicals. Ethanol is the simplest alcohol compound. The reactivity of this compound is determined by its functional group. At room temperature, methanol has the properties of a clear and clear liquid, volatile and flammable, is a polar solvent, soluble in water, ethanol, and ether. In addition, it is toxic if inhaled which can cause blindness. The physical properties of methanol include having a boiling point of 64.7oC and a specific gravity of 0.7866 g/ml. With its properties, this chemical is used as a fuel, as a raw material for the manufacture of formaldehyde, MTBE, and acetic acid, as an additive, and as a waste treatment material. From year to year the need for methanol in Indonesia is increasing. About 70% of the world's methanol production is used as a raw material for the synthesis of other chemicals. The ethanol industry is one of the promising chemical industries in Indonesia. The four holding companies that produce ethanol in Indonesia reach a total capacity of 205 million liters/year. The four holding companies are PT. Molindo Raya, PT. Lampung Distilery, PT. Indo Acidatama, and PT. Energy Agro Nusnatara. The four of them use molasses as a raw material that takes from various PTPNs throughout Indonesia. However, the molasses produced by PTPN X has not been used optimally for the manufacture of ethanol. The plant is planned to operate semi-continuously 24 hours for 330 days per year with a production capacity of 35,000 tons/year. Located in Kediri, East Java, which has a molasses availability of around 108,000 tons/year. The process of making ethanol from molasses is divided into four main process parts, namely: • Molasses dilution: molasses dilution step with process water and Ammonium Sulfate. • Propagation: yeast breeding stages. • Fermentation: molasses is converted into ethanol. • Purification: purify the ethanol product by using evaporation, distillation, and adsorption dehydration to produce ethanol with grade (99, 5%). The source of investment funds comes from own capital at 30% of investment costs and short-term loans of 70% of investment costs. Based on economic analysis, the rate of return on capital (IRR) of this factory is 21.04% with an interest rate of 9.85% per year and an inflation rate of 1.55%. Meanwhile, the payback period (POT) is 6.74 years and the break-even point (BEP) is 33% in a linear way. The life of the factory is 10 years and the construction period is 2 years. To produce 35,000 tons of ethanol/year, a total annual production cost (TPC) of Rp 254,185,595,257 is required, a total investment cost of Rp 854,556,943,703 and a total sales of Rp 525,000,000,000. By looking at the assessment aspects of the economic and technical analysis, the ethanol plant from molasses is feasible to establish.
