Abstract

Aluminium foam merupakan pengembangan dari produk aluminium konvensional yang memiliki keunggulan di sifat mekanik yaitu memiliki densitas yang jauh lebih rendah daripada aluminium padat dan kemampuan menyerap energi yang baik. Pembuatan aluminium foam dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan foaming agent CaCO3 dan stabilizer Al2O3. Penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh variasi massa Al2O3 terhadap karakteristik dan sifat mekanik dari aluminium foam. Variasi massa Al2O3 adalah 3, 5, dan 7 wt%, dengan foaming agent CaCO3 sebanyak 3 wt%. Aluminium foam yang terbentuk diuji dengan mikroskop stereo, uji kompresi, dan uji impak yang menunjukkan hasil berupa penambahan stabilizer Al2O3¬ paling optimum yaitu sebesar 5% yang menghasilkan karakteristik densitas paling tinggi sebesar 0.812 g/cm3 dan ukuran porositas yang kecil pada 0.133 mm karena semakin tinggi stabilizer Al2O3 membuat logam cair menjadi lebih stabil sehingga porositas yang terbentuk lebih kecil dan densitas lebih besar. Namun penambahan Al2O3 5% menghasilkan sifat mekanik kekuatan kompresi dan penyerapan energi yang paling tinggi yaitu 19.750 Mpa dan 16.005 J.

Aluminum foam is a development from conventional aluminum products with advantages in mechanical properties, namely having a lower density than solid aluminum and absorbing energy. Making aluminium foam can be done by adding a foaming agent, one of them is CaCO3. Besides, a stabilizer in Al2O3 is needed as a liquid stabilizer during the foaming process. This research analyzes the effect of mass variation of Al2O3 on aluminum foam's characteristics and mechanical properties. The variations in the mass of Al2O3 are 3, 5, and 7 wt% with 3% CaCO3. The formed aluminium foam tested by density measurement, stereo microscopy, compression test, and impact test. It shows the most optimum result of Al2O3 addition is 5% that also produces the optimum result of density characteristics which was 0.812 g/cm3, and porosity size 0.133 mm because of the higher Al2O3 addition that can make the molten metal more stable, so it result in more negligible porosity and higher density. Nevertheless, it result from the most optimal mechanical properties such as compressive strength and energy absorption, 19.750 Mpa and 16.005 J.
