Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian pengaruh waktu tahan sintering terhadap densitas dan kekerasan Kermaik zirkon-alumina (ZrSiO4/Al2O3). Serbuk zircon (ZrSiO4) kemurnian tinggi diekstraksi dari pasir Zirkon Puya Kalimantan Tengah dengan metode Alkali Fusion, sedangkan alumina (γ-Al2O3) disiapkan dari bahan komersial Merck. Kedua bahan dasar dengan perbandingan mol 2 : 3 dicampur menggunakan ballmill selama 6 jam, dikalsinasi 200 oC selama 2 jam kemudian dikompaksi membentuk pellet, selanjutnya disinter pada 1300 oC dengan variasi waktu tahan 3, 5 dan 7 jam. Keramik ZrSiO4/Al2O3 yang telah disinter diidentifikasi menggunakan difraksi Sinar -X (XRD), densitas diukur menggunakan densimeter, sedangkan kekerasan diuji dengan Micro hardness Vickers. Hasil identifikasi pola XRD menunjukkan bahwa terbentuk 5 fasa pada masing masing sampel yaitu zirkon (ZrSiO4), zirkonia (t-ZrO2 dan m-ZrO2), korondum (α-Al2O3), dan mullite (3Al2O3. 2SiO2). Nilai densitas dan kekerasan cenderung meningkat dengan lama waktu tahan. Nilai tertinggi densitas 4,067 g/cm3 dan kekerasan 3,09 GPa. terdapat pada sampel dengan waktu tahan sintering 7 jam. Temperatur sintering menyebabkan transformasi dan pembentukan fasa baru serta dekomposisi ZrSiO4, sedangkan lama waktu tahan sintering akan meningkatkan nilai kekerasannya.

Research of the effect of sintering holding time on the density and hardness of zircon-alumina (ZrSiO4/Al2O3) ceramics has been carried out. High purity zircon powder (ZrSiO4) was extracted from the Puya Zircon sand of Central Kalimantan by the Alkali Fusion method, while alumina (γ-Al2O3) was prepared from Merck commercial materials. The two basic materials with a mole ratio of 2 : 3 were mixed using a ball mill for 6 hours, calcined at 200 oC for 2 hours then compacted to form pellets, and then sintered at 1300 oC with variations in holding time of 3, 5 and 7 hours. The sintered ZrSiO4/Al2O3 ceramics were identified using X-Ray diffraction (XRD), density was measured using a densimeter, while hardness was tested using Micro hardness Vickers. The results of the identification of the XRD pattern showed that 5 phases were identified in each sample, namely zircon (ZrSiO4), zirconia (t-ZrO2 and m-ZrO2), corondum (α-Al2O3), and mullite (3Al2O3. 2 SiO2). Density and hardness values tend to increase with increasing holding time. The highest value of density is 4,067 g/cm3 and hardness is 3.09 GPa. found in ZrSiO4/Al2O3 ceramics with a holding time of 7 hours. The sintering temperature causes transformation, new phase formation and decomposition of ZrSiO4, while the longer holding time increase the hardness value.
