Abstract

CuSn composite is a metal matrix composite that can be used as a material for making frangible bullets. The manufacture of CuSn composites is carried out using a 4-column frame hydraulic compacting machine because it has higher efficiency and more flexible installation. The amount of pressure applied and the holding time of the compression during the compacting process (dwelling time) greatly affect the performance of the compacting machine which has an impact on the mechanical properties of the resulting composite product. Therefore, it is necessary to test the the 4-column frame type automatic hydraulic compacting machine and test the resulting product with various compaction pressure variables, namely 500, 600 and 700 Mpa and dwelling time, namely, 0; 5; 15; 30; 45 minutes. The test results show that the sample with a pressure of 700 Mpa with a dwelling time of 15 minutes has the optimum values for density, hardness and compressive strength with values of 8.454 gr/cm3, 87 HRF and 349.74 Mpa. The results of the SEM/EDX test showed that at a pressure of 700 Mpa the best powder disinfection occurred. The 4-column hydraulic compaction machine has a pressing accuracy of 100%, with a machine efficiency of 80%, and a production efficiency of 73%.
