Abstract

Bahan aditif seperti coupling agent dapat meningkatkan interaksi dari matriks dan pengisi dalam komposit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh acetic anhydride (C4H6O3) terhadap karakteristik coating komposit unsaturated polyester/vinyl ester (UP/VE) dengan partikel pengisi silikon karibda (SiC) dan alumina (Al2O3) pada komposisi yang tetap (6 wt.%). Acetic anhydride (Ac2O) dengan penambahan 2,5; 5; dan 7,5 wt.% digunakan sebagai coupling agent dalam penelitian ini. Preparasi coating komposit dilakukan dengan metode hand lay up dengan proses pengadukan menggunkan kecepatan 60-80 rpm selama 35 menit. Penambahan Ac2O pada komposisi 2,5 wt. % meningkatkan tensile strength sebesar 44 MPa, lap shear strength sebesar 37 MPa dan menurunkan water absorption sebesar 0,07 wt.% pada blend polimer UP/VE. Penambahan Ac2O dengan komposisi 2,5 wt. % meningkatkan tensile strength sebesar 35 MPa, lap shear strength sebesar 24 MPa dan menurunkan water absorption sebesar 0,03 wt. % pada komposit UP/VE/SiC. Penambahan Ac2O dengan komposisi 2,5 wt. % meningkatkan tensile strength sebesar 38 MPa, lap shear strength sebesar 24 MPa dan menurunkan water absorption sebesar 0,033 wt. % pada komposit UP/VE/Al2O3.

Additives such as coupling agents can increase the interaction of the matrix and filler in the composite. This study aims to analyze the effect of acetic anhydride (C4H6O3) on the characteristics of unsaturated polyester/vinyl ester (UP/VE) composite coatings with silicon carbide (SiC) and alumina (Al2O3) filler particles at a fixed composition (6 wt.%). Acetic anhydride (Ac2O) in addition of 2,5; 5; and 7.5 wt.% were used as coupling agents in this study. Composite coating preparation was carried out by the hand lay up method with a stirring process using a speed of 60-80 rpm for 35 minutes. Addition of Ac2O to the composition of 2.5 wt. % increased tensile strength by 44 MPa, lap shear strength by 37 MPa and decreased water absorption by 0.07 wt.% in the UP/VE polymer blend. Addition of Ac2O with a composition of 2.5 wt. % increased tensile strength by 35 MPa, lap shear strength by 24 MPa and decreased water absorption by 0.03 wt. % on UP/VE/SiC composites. Addition of Ac2O with a composition of 2.5 wt. % increased tensile strength by 38 MPa, lap shear strength by 24 MPa and decreased water absorption by 0.033 wt. % on UP/VE/Al2O3 composites.
