Abstract

In maintaining the continuity and reliability of the system is very important, the stability of the power system must also be considered. In electric power systems, transient stability analysis plays an important role in maintaining operational safety. When a disturbance occurs, the protection system will work to protect and secure the electrical system. Once the disturbance has been removed and the system operates as before, there is no guarantee that the system will return to its original state. For example, if there is an additional load, the generator in the system will become unstable. Therefore, the focus of this research is the determination of critical generators using the modal analysis method. Modal analysis provides information about eigenvalue and participation factors. The system is said to be stable if all the eigenvalues are negative, if there is only one positive eigenvalue the system is said to be unstable. After that, the results of the modal analysis method are compared with the Energy Index method. By determining the right critical generator, it is expected to be able to improve the stability of the power system. So that the system remains stable and survives disturbances when disturbances occur. In this study, the results obtained from the Anderson and Fouad 3-generator 9-bus modal analysis system, the critical generator is located in the 2nd generator. While in the Anderson and Fouad 4-generator 9-bus systems, the critical generator is located at the 2nd generator. The results on the Energy Index in determining the critical generator are the same as the Anderson and Fouad 3-generator 9-bus modal analysis, the critical generator is located in the 2nd generator. While in the Anderson and Fouad 4-generator 9-bus systems, the critical generator is located at the 2nd generator.
