Abstract

Renewable energy resources are getting more attention in the electricity research fields., Many countries are trying to make renewable energy as the main source to generate electricity because of it’s green and clean properties.
This research will present a real case study in Al-Bayda city, Libya. This research is aimed to decrease the burden of main electricity network comes from Benghazi city. Existing condition reveals that as power source in Benghazi city cannot meet total power demand in Al-Bayada city. As the result, electricity supply is interrupted frequently especially in the residential areas. To improve continuity of electric supply in Al-Bayda city, integration of Photovoltaic (PV) system with batteries is proposed. Since the distribution network has diesel generator, optimization of operation will be applied to minimize the overall cost and decreasing the losses in the distribution network. Foreword-Backward method will be used for load flow calculations to calculate the total losses. In order to optimize cost and loses, firefly algorithm will be used.
