Abstract

Material termokromik adalah material yang dapat berubah warna jika terjadi perubahan temperatur pada permukaannya. Dalam penelitian ini, material termokromik yang dicampurkan dengan TiO2, akrilik, dan etilen glikol dimanfaatkan sebagai pelapis selubung bangunan untuk mereduksi beban pendinginan ruangan pada bangunan tropis. Lapisan termokromik dibuat dengan lima variasi komposisi Thermochromic Material (TCM) dan TiO2, yaitu 5:40; 10:35; 20:25; 30:15; 40:5 %b/b (TCM:TiO2) dengan 50% massa sisanya adalah akrilik dan etilen glikol. Sedangkan, pengukuran variabel iklim dan variabel iklim ruang pada bangunan dilakukan pada bulan November – Februari. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa konduktivitas termal kelima variasi komposisi lapisan termokromik proporsional terhadap peningkatan temperatur. Selain itu, konduktivitas termal yang dihasilkan memiliki perbedaan nilai yang kecil untuk kelima variasi, sehingga besarnya beban pendinginan yang dapat direduksi juga hampir sama, yaitu sebesar 46,93% pada saat kondisi nilai transmitansi termal (U) maksimum dan 84,78% pada saat kondisi U minimum. Oleh karena itu, formula lapisan termokromik dengan komposisi 5 %b/b TCM sudah cukup untuk mereduksi beban pendinginan ruangan.

Thermochromic material is a material that can change color if there is a change in temperature on its surface. In this study, a thermochromic material mixed with TiO2, acrylic, and ethylene glycol was used as a coating materials for building envelope to reduce the cooling load of a tropical building. The thermochromic coating was prepared using five variations of the composition of Thermochromic Material (TCM) and TiO2., i.e. 5:40, 10:35, 20:25, 30:15, 40:5 %w/w (TCM:TiO2) while the rest of mass fraction consists of a mixed acrylic and ethylene glycol. Meanwhile, measurements of climate variables and microclimate variables in the investigated building were carried out in November – February. The results indicate that the thermal conductivity of the five variations in the composition of the thermochromic coating was proportional to the increase in temperature. In addition, the resulting thermal conductivity has onlyminor difference for the five variations, so that the amount of cooling load that can be reduced is also almost the same, which is 46.93% when the total heat transfer coefficient (U) is at its maximum value and 84.78% when the total heat transfer coefficient is at its minimum value. Therefore, the thermochromic coating formula with a composition of 5 %w/w TCM is sufficient to substantially reduce the cooling load.
