Abstract

One type of mooring system that is often used in marine system operations nowadays is Single Point Mooring (SPM) or Single Buoy Mooring (SBM). The SBM terminal allows the moored tankers to rotate up to 360° (weathervaning) around its mooring point according to the influence of environmental conditions that befall it. Under conventional operating conditions (without the help of DP or Dynamic Positioning), the distance between the ship and the SBM must be controlled, one of which is by using tugboat towing assistance. This study aims to see how the behavior of the tugboat in maintaining the movement of the tanker so that there is no collision with the SBM. If the tugboat shifts from its ideal position and the deviation that is formed exceeds the amplitude limit of its operating area, then the tugboat becomes less effective in its function. In this study, the mooring system used by the tanker is a 4x1 symmetrical CALM Buoy type SBM, which the tanker is pulled at the stern by a tugboat that has a bollard pull of 70 tons. The variations in the capacity of the tankers used are 50,000 DWT, 100,000 DWT, and 150,000 DWT. From the results of the study, it is known that the maximum tension value on the hawser and tugline, as well as the maximum offset of the tugboat in each scenario of tanker capacity occurs in the same loading direction, namely from beam seas (90°) with a deviation angle formed respectively of 17,02°, 17.36°, and 16.09°. Where this value is still below the operating zone limit of the tug, which is 30°, so that a tugboat with a bollard pull of 70 tons can still be used for tankers with varying capacities during their operating conditions.
