Abstract

Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing (GFDM) is a new concept of flexible multi-carrier transmission for future communication systems. This system can overcome the shortcomings of OFDM, namely the high value of Peak Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and Out of Band radiation (OOB). GFDM produces low OOB radiation with the use of raised cosine pulse shaping and the use of one Cyclic Prefix (CP) in a group of GFDM symbol groups resulting in more efficient bandwidth. High Power amplifier (HPA) functions to provide enough signal power so that the transmission can reach the receiver, but the closer the HPA is pushed to the saturation region, the greater the nonlinear distortion. This will reduce system performance. To improve power efficiency performance, it is necessary to consider techniques to compensate for nonlinear distortion. This compensation can be performed at the transmitter or receiver. If compensation is applied to the transmitter, the signal to be sent is modified before sending it to the PA.
This research succeeded in overcoming the nonlinear effect of Saleh's HPA Model which reduces performance and causes nonlinear distortion in GFDM by proposing a predistorter technique before HPA on GFDM transmitters. Besides, it also succeeded in overcoming the problem of nonlinear distortion in the MIMO-GFDM system at high M-ary on the transmitter side by proposing a predistorter technique before HPA. Meanwhile, to overcome the combined effect of nonlinear distortion and crosstalk by proposing the Iterative Receiver technique.
System modeling uses a complex baseband simulation model because this simulation model is easier and simpler. In this simulation modeling used Matlab version R2015a software. The results showed that the application of the predistorter in MIMO-GFDM can reduce the nonlinear distortion effect of HPA. The system with a predistorter is proven to have better spectrum parameters. The signal spectrum with HPA has an increase in OOB of 55 dB. Meanwhile, the predistorter system experienced a decrease in the OOB value by 55 dB, thus successfully compensating for the HPA effect. A system with a predistorter to obtain a Bit Error Rate (BER) of 10-2 requires an E_b/N_0 of 9 dB for the AWGN channel and 20 dB for the Rayleigh channel.
The iterative receiver method succeeded in compensating the combined effect for small iteration values, namely iteration 1 to iteration 4 for 16 OQAM modulation according to the modulation level used. A system with an iterative receiver to obtain a BER value of 10-4 requires an E_b/N_0 of 20 dB for the AWGN channel. Meanwhile, in Rayleigh channel, to get a BER value of 10-2, it takes 25 dB of E_b/N_0. The advantage of this technique is that it can be applied to Base Stations so that it does not increase the computational complexity and costs on the cellular terminal side.
