Abstract

================================================================================================ Malachite Green (MG) is one of the basic dyes that can be used in the textile industry. MG is teratogenic and carcinogenic. MG is very toxic to mammalian cells because it can cause liver tumors and is also harmful to the environment. Excessive use of MG can pose a danger to the environment and humans, so it is necessary to find a way to reduce it. This study investigated the decolorization of MG dye by the bacterial culture of Bacillus subtilis. The optimum conditions were determined by variations of MG concentrations, incubation times, incubation temperatures, pH and static shaker. The results showed that MG with a concentration of 50 mg/L could be decolorized well at its optimum condition, in Luria-Bertani Broth (LB) medium, pH 7 with an incubation time of 36 hours at 40 °C. Bacterial culture of B. subtilis under optimum conditions was able to decolorize MG up to 99.39%. The results showed that B. subtilis with its optimum conditions had the ability to degrade MG dyes.
