Abstract

Malachite green (MG) is a triphenylmethane dye that is used to color various materials such as cotton, wood, silk, leather, and paper. MG is environmentally persistent and highly toxic to a variety of aquatic and terrestrial animals. In this study, the decolorization of MG was investigated using bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Luria-Bertani broth media. Decolorization of MG was analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that optimization of the decolorization process of MG dye with bacterium P. aeruginosa was obtained at a MG concentration of 50 mg/L with an incubation time of 24 hours, a temperature of 40 °C with a pH of 7 under static conditions. The results showed that P. aeruginosa with its optimum conditions had the ability to decolorize MG dyes approximately 96,5 %.
