Abstract

Pencapaian English Proficiency Index masyarakat Indonesia yang rendah menandakan bahwa perlu adanya pengembangan metode pembelajaran kecakapan bahasa Inggris sesuai standar dunia pada masyarakat usia dini hingga usia produktif. Penggunaan multimedia dan teknologi jaringan dapat menghadirkan pembelajaran yang lebih memotivasi target pembelajaran. Pembelajaran digital sistem edukasi di Indonesia memunculkan pola pembelajaran self-learning dalam bentuk media pembelajaran mobile yang disebut Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL). Analisis usabilitas materi pembelajaran diperlukan untuk mengevaluasi metode belajar dalam aplikasi secara tepat sehingga target pembelajaran dapat fokus memahami konten materi. Peninjauan kegunaan sebuah aplikasi secara praktikal dapat dinilai dengan dua parameter yaitu utility dan usability. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji perbedaan user perception karena adanya perbedaan varibel independen yang ditentukan dengan parameter completion time dan error rate. Selanjutnya, dilakukan evaluasi utilitas dan efektivitas metode MALL berdasarkan time spent learning dan skor pedagogical ergonomic. Pada penelitian ini, metode yang digunakan dalam evaluasi penggunaan MALL pada Aplikasi Duolingo adalah Pedagogical Ergonomic Tool for Educational Software Evaluation (PETESE). Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa seluruh variabel dependen tidak memiliki perbedaan yang signifikan, kecuali untuk kombinasi faktor usia dan nilai kemampuan terhadap pedagogical ergonomic score. Berdasarkan hasil kuesioner PETESE pada Aplikasi Duolingo dikategorikan sebagai sumber pendidikan yang sangat baik. Rekomendasi perbaikan berfokus pada jenis errors (technical usability) dan beberapa aspek pedagogigal usability, khususnya cooperative learning dari fitur Aplikasi Duolingo. Guideline pengembangan meliputi deskripsi fitur/parameter yang dibutuhkan dalam perancangan atau evaluasi produk berdasarkan aspek general, pedagogical, usability, technical, content, dan interface.

The attainment of the low English Proficiency Index of the Indonesian people indicates that there is a need to develop English language proficiency learning methods according to world standards in early to productive age communities. The use of multimedia and network technology can provide learning that is more motivating for learning targets. The digital learning of the education system in Indonesia has led to a pattern of self-learning in the form of mobile learning education media called Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL). The usability analysis of learning materials is needed to evaluate learning methods in the application appropriately so that learning targets can focus on understanding the content of the material. Reviewing the usability of an application can practically be assessed by two parameters, namely utility and usability. This study aims to examine differences in user perception due to differences in independent variables determined by the completion time and error rate parameters. Furthermore, evaluating the utility and effectiveness of the MALL method based on time spent learning and pedagogical ergonomics scores. In this study, the method used in evaluating the use of MALL on the Duolingo application is the Pedagogical Ergonomic Tool for Educational Software Evaluation (PETESE). The results of statistical tests showed that all dependent variables did not have significant differences, except for the combination of age factors and language ability on the pedagogical ergonomics score. Based on the results of the PETESE questionnaire on the Duolingo application, it is categorized as an excellent educational resource. Recommendations for improvement focus on the types of errors (technical usability) and several aspects of pedagogical usability, particularly cooperative learning of the Duolingo Application features. The development guideline includes a description of the features/parameters needed in application design or evaluation based on general, pedagogical, usability, technical, content, and interface aspects.
