Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on various sectors, one of which is the education sector. The high risk and impact of the spread of the virus in the education sector has prompted the government through the Ministry of Education to issue circulars of the Minister of Education and Culture number 4 of 2020 and number 15 of 2020 regarding provisions for distance learning from home and implementation guidelines in online learning that apply to all levels of education. The policy requires all educational institutions in Indonesia to implement the new policy, one of which is the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology by implementing distance lectures and working from home so that it has an influence on work methods, workload and stress levels experienced by lecturers. Based on the results of an initial survey that was distributed to several lecturers at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, as many as 81% of respondents stated that they felt an increase in mental workload and as many as 71% of respondents stated that there was an increase in stress levels experienced while carrying out the tri dharma obligations of higher education during the Covid-19 pandemic. Related to these problems, further research was carried out to analyze the mental workload and stress levels of lecturers during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study uses the Defense Research Agency Workload Scale (DRAWS), NASA-TLX, and Perceived Stress Scale-10 methods. Based on the calculation results, it is known that 81% of respondents are in a mental workload condition of overload, 14% optimal, and 5% underload. As for the level of stress, as many as 64% of respondents belong to the category of moderate stress, 22% high stress, and 14% low stress. Based on these conditions, it is necessary to make efforts to reduce the level of mental workload and stress by evaluating the workload of lecturers, conducting stress management, and making the MyITS platform as a centralized medium for communication, work, and lectures.
