Abstract

The reconfiguration of the AC distribution system to DC is a way to increase the efficiency of fuel use in the ship's diesel generator. By reconfiguring the distribution system, the losses generated by the impedance effect on the AC current can be eliminated. In reconfiguring the distribution system, there are additional components that can increase harmonic distortion and total harmonic distortion (THD) in the ship's electrical system, namely the converter. This increase in harmonics affects the quality of the power delivered to the system because the waveform changes that are not perfectly sinusoidal, resulting in overheating of the electrical equipment which can reduce the performance of the ship's electrical equipment. The problem of harmonic distortion in the reconfiguration of the AC to DC distribution system needs to be solved. In this study, harmonic distortion is simulated using computer software, based on four-ship operating conditions. From the DC distribution simulation results, the harmonic distortion that occurs in the bus generator panel is 11.23% THD in sailing conditions, 11.23% THD in leaving/arriving conditions, 11.23% THD in loading-unloading conditions, and 11. 23% THD on at port condition. Based on the IEEE 519-2014 standard, the limit of harmonic distortion is 8% THD, so the simulation results of harmonic distortion in a DC distribution system exceed the limit and it is necessary to find a solution to reduce the harmonic distortion that occurs. The solution to reducing harmonic distortion in this research is by installing a harmonic filter on buses that exceed the standard limit with a filter type, namely a single-tuned passive filter. After installing the harmonic filter, the harmonic distortion that occurs on the bus generator panel has decreased to 0.53% THD in sailing conditions, 0.53% THD in leaving/arriving conditions, 0.53% THD in loading-unloading conditions, and 0, 53% THD in at port condition, so that the harmonic distortion in the DC distribution system does not exceed the IEEE 519-2014 standard limit.
