Abstract

====================================================================================================
Sea transportation has an important role as the lifeblood of economic, socio-cultural, political, and security defense so that by choosing sea transportation as more efficient transportation, the level of NOx emissions in the sea also increases. Besides that, the use of diesel engines continuously will experience a decrease in performance. Factors that influence it, one of which is the emergence of carbon deposits. To reduce the formation of carbon deposits, it is necessary to add liquid additives to the fuel. This study discusses the comparison of the formation of carbon deposits produced by B30 biodiesel fuel with or without the addition of liquid additives. The addition of this liquid additive is expected to reduce the formation of carbon deposits so that the engine performance becomes better. This test was carried out by means of an experiment using a diesel engine that was run for 100 hours for each fuel variable. The analysis includes the formation of carbon deposits, engine performance, and NOx emissions. From the test results, the results of adding liquid additives to B30 biodiesel fuel can reduce the growth of carbon deposits in the diesel engine combustion chamber by 15% with a B30 deposit of 3.53 grams and after adding additives it is reduced to 2.99 grams followed by an increase in engine performance of 1% and the resulting exhaust emissions are not much different with or without the addition of liquid additives.
