Abstract

The Poverty Gap Index is the average expenditure gap of each poor population against the poverty line. The higher the index value, the farther the average population expenditure is from the poverty line. In 2019 the Poverty Gap Index was 1.50% while in 2020 Indonesia's Poverty Gap Index increased to 1.61%. The increase in the poverty gap index is thought to be caused by several factors and to find out the factors that cause the increase in the poverty gap index in Indonesia, a statistical method is used. The statistical method used to solve this problem is nonparametric regression. This method is used because the poverty gap index and the factors that are thought to influence it do not form a certain data pattern, so the method used is nonparametric spline truncated regression. The best model is obtained from optimal knots based on the Generalized Cross Validation (GCV) value, the most optimal is to use a combination of knot points (1,2,1,3,3). The five predictor variables used have a significant effect on the poverty gap index in Indonesia. This modeling produces a coefficient of determination of 92.97%.
