Abstract

Socket-head bolt merupakan bagian komponen dari full-port ball valve. Socket-head bolt adalah jenis baut yang digunakan untuk pengikat plate handle pada full-port ball valve. Socket-head bolt termasuk dalam jenis baut socket. Dalam penelitian kali ini, dilakukan analisis penyebab terjadinya kegagalan pada socket-head bolt di full-port ball valve dengan tujuan menganalisa faktor penyebab dan mekanisme terjadinya kegagalan komponen socket-head bolt untuk pengikat plate handle pada full-port ball valve. Pengujian yang dilakukan untuk menganalisa kegagalan ini adalah uji lingkungan, uji komposisi, pengujian makrografi, uji mikroskopik, dan uji kekerasan. Setelah dilakukan pengujian tersebut, didapatkan faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya kegagalan komponen socket-head bolt yaitu faktor manusia (goresan akibat kesalahan pemasangan baut) dan faktor lingkungan (korosi, dan getaran). Mekanisme kegagalan komponen socket-head bolt pada full-port ball valve diawali dengan initial crack pada ulir kemudian merambat pada permukaan baut sebelum terjadinya patah dikarenakan socket-head bolt tidak mampu menahan tegangan yang ada, sehingga tercipta kegagalan fatigue.

Socket-head bolt is a component part of a full-port ball valve. Socket-head bolt is a type of bolt used to fasten the plate handle on a full-port ball valve. Socket-head bolts are included in the type of socket bolts. In this study, a failure analysis on socket-head bolt in the full-port ball valve was carried out with the aim to analyze the causal factors and the failure mechanism on socket-head bolt component that was used to fasten the plate handle on full-port ball valve. The tests carried out to analyze this failure were environmental test, composition test, macrographic test, microscopic test, and hardness test. After the tests, it was found that the factors causing the socket-head bolt component to fail were human factors (scratches due to bolt installation errors) and environmental factors (corrosion and vibration). The failure mechanism of the socket-head bolt component on a full-port ball valve began with an initial crack on the thread then propagate on the surface of the bolt before it breaks because the socket-head bolt is unable to withstand the existing stress, resulting in fatigue failure.
