Abstract

Konsumsi listrik di Indonesia terus meningkat. Energi listrik tersebut didominasi oleh sumber energi fosil, yang menyebabkan peningkatan emisi karbon. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, pemerintah Indonesia memiliki target peningkatan penggunaan energi baru dan terbarukan. Energi arus laut merupakan salah satu energi baru terbarukan yang berpotensi di Indonesia dengan potensi energi 20.016 GW. Potensi tersebut dapat di ekstrak dengan salah satu teknologi yaitu turbin arus laut sumbu vertikal. Pada penelitian ini, dilakukan simulasi numerik penambahan vortex generator pada blade turbin arus laut sumbu vertikal. Variasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu penambahan VG satu sisi (sisi luar) dan penambahan VG dua sisi (sisi luar dan dalam) pada blade turbin. Vortex generator yang digunakan memiliki parameter desain yang telah ditentukan berdasarkan beberapa penelitian sebelumnya, dengan posisi VG dipasang pada 8% dan 20% dari panjang chord. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan vortex generator satu sisi pada posisi VG 8% dan 20% dari panjang chord pada blade turbin arus laut sumbu vertikal menghasilkan penurunan performa turbin, dengan rata-rata penurunan sebesar 16% dan 11% dibandingkan dengan turbin tanpa vortex generator. Sedangkan penambahan vortex generator dua sisi (luar & dalam) menghasilkan penurunan dengan rata-rata 67% dan 68% dari turbin tanpa vortex generator.

Electricity consumption in Indonesia continues to increase. Electrical energy is dominated by fossil energy sources, which causes an increase in carbon emissions. To overcome this problem, the Indonesian government has a target of increasing the use of new and renewable energy. Ocean current energy is one of the potential new renewable energy in Indonesia, with an energy potential of 20,016 GW. This potential can be extracted with one of the technologies, namely vertical axis ocean current turbines. In this study, a numerical simulation of adding vortex generators to the vertical axis ocean current turbine blade was carried out. Variations in this study are the addition of 1-sided VG (outer side) and the addition of 2-sided VG (outer and inner sides) on the turbine blade. The vortex generator used has predetermined design parameters based on several previous studies, with the VG position installed at 8% and 20% of the chord length. The results showed that the addition of a 1-sided vortex generator at the VG position of 8% and 20% of the chord length on the vertical axis ocean current turbine blade resulted in a decrease in turbine performance, with an average decrease of 16% and 11% compared to turbines without vortex generators. While the addition of 2-sided vortex generators (outer &; inner) resulted in an average decrease of 67% and 68% of turbines without vortex generators.
