Abstract

Industri otomotif telah menanggapi isu global tentang
krisis energi dengan banyak memproduksi kendaraan yang hemat
bahan bakar dan memiliki berat yang ringan. Body kendaraan
merupakan komponen yang paling mudah dimodifikasi untuk
mengurangi berat kendaraan, dan material yang sesuai yaitu
dengan komposit berpenguat serat alam. Serat alam merupakan
alternatif filler komposit untuk berbagai komposit polimer karena
keunggulannya dibanding serat sintetis. Di antara berbagai jenis
serat alam, sisal merupakan salah satu tanaman yang paling
banyak digunakan. Serat sisal merupakan penguat yang
menjanjikan untuk digunakan sebagai komposit karena harganya
yang murah, densitasnya rendah, kekuatan spesifik dan
modulusnya tinggi, tanpa resiko kesehatan serta tersedia
melimpah dan merupakan bahan alam terbarukan.
Material yang diteliti menggunakan komposisi berupa
epoxy resin dan serat sisal. Spesimen uji tarik dibuat sesuai
dimensi ASTM D3039-105 dengan variasi struktur serat sisal
chopped, continue, woven dan masing-masing struktur
divariasikan dengan fraksi volume serat sisal 40%,50%,60%
Komposit dibuat dengan komposisi yang sudah ditentukan, dan
dituang dalam cetakan, dibiarkan mengeras dengan temperatur
kamar selama 24 jam, spesimen yang sudah jadi dilakukan uji
tarik untuk mengetahui sifat mekanik yang terjadi pada komposit.

The automotive industry has responded to the global
issues of energy crisis by producing more fuel-efficient and a
light weighted vehicles. The vehicle body is the most easily
modified component to reduce the weight of vehicles, and the
corresponding material composite fiber is by nature. Natural fiber
composites are an alternative filler for various polymer composite
because of its superiority compared to synthetic fibers. Among
the various types of natural fibers, sisal plant is one of the most
widely used fiber. Sisal fiber amplifier is promising to be used as
composite because the price is cheap, has low density, with high
specific strength and modulus, without health risks and is
available in abundance and is a renewable natural material.
The material studied using the composition is in the form
of epoxy resin and sisal fibers. Tensile test specimens made
according to ASTM D3039-105 dimension by varying the
structure of sisal fiber chopped, continue, woven and each
structure varied with sisal fiber volume fraction 40%, 50%, 60%
composites made with a predetermined composition, and poured
in mold, allowed to hardened at room temperature for 24 hours,
the finished specimens were tested to determine the tensile
mechanical properties that occur in the composite.
The research result obtained that the continue fiber
structure generated the highest tensile stress values, followed by
the woven structure and the smallest tensile stress value is
