Abstract

Salah satu indikator energi pada industri gula adalah Steam on Cane (SOC). SOC menunjukkan pemakaian steam tiap berat tebu. Semakin kecil SOC, efisiensi energi pabrik gula semakin baik. Pabrik gula yang efisien akan memiliki SOC kurang dari atau sama dengan 40%. Nilai SOC lebih dari 40% menyebabkan pabrik gula harus menggunakan bahan bakar lain selain bagasse. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menurunkan SOC melalui inovasi konfigurasi proses dan mengevaluasi heat integration di bagian process house dengan cara menerapkan aplikasi analisis pinch, serta menganalisa exergy loss dengan menerapkan EUD (Energy Utilization Diagram).
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai SOC di Pabrik Gula Pesantren Baru sudah di bawah 40% yaitu 31.47% dan berdasarkan analisis pinch, heat integration di bagian process house PG Pesantren saat ini sudah sesuai dengan kaidah pinch. Namun jika ditinjau dari luas perpindahan panas, rute aliran tersebut masih belum optimal sehingga didapatkan rute aliran baru yaitu uap evaporator 1 bisa digunakan untuk sumber pemanas heater I, vacuum pan A dan vacuum pan C, uap evaporator 2 bisa digunakan untuk sumber pemanas heater II dan vacuum pan D. Konfigurasi proses baru ini didapat berdasarkan analisis ΔTlmtd, dengan memilih ΔTlmtd yang paling besar sehingga luas perpindahan panasnya semakin kecil dan dapat diperkirakan capital cost nya akan menurun.

The energy efficiency of sugar mill can be indicated
by variable steam on cane (SOC). SOC is defined as weight
of steam consumption per weight of steam consumption per
weight of crushed cane. The smaller the SOC, the energy
efficiency of sugar mill is better. The main source of fuel in
sugar mill is bagasse. Bagasse is the waste of cane
extraction. The sugar factory will be efficient if SOC is less
than 40%. If SOC value is more than 40%, it will cause
additional fuel other than bagasse. This study aims to
decrease SOC through configuration process innovation by
applying pinch and evaluate exergy loss by applying EUD
(Energy Utilization Diagram) in the process house of sugar
factory.
The result showed that SOC value in “Pesantren
Baru” sugar mill is already under 40% that is 31.47% and
based on pinch analysis, heat integration in process house
‘Pesantren Baru” sugar mill currently has been suitable
with pinch rule. But if it’s viewed from the heat transfer
area, the configuration’s still not optimal so there’s a new
configuration that’s vapor 1 to be used for heater 1, vacuum
pan A and C, vapor 2 to be used for heater 2 and vacuum
pan D. The new configuration’s obtained from analysis
ΔTlmtd, for choosing ΔTlmtd that’s the biggest ΔTlmtd so the
heat transfer area and the capital cost decrease.
