Abstract

Hutan mangrove di Indonesia terutama Pulau Jawa terus mengalami degradasi akibat konversi peruntukan yaitu tambak, penebangan kayu mangrove untuk berbagai keperluan,disamping rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat tentang fungsi ekologis hutan mangrove dan ketidakpastian status kawasan. Keseimbangan ekologi lingkungan perairan pantai akan tetap terjaga apabila keberadaan mangrove dipertahankan karena mangrove dapat berfungsi sebagai biofilter, agen pengikat dan perangkap polusi, penangkap sumber pencemar yang sangat banyak dan memiliki toleransi yang tinggi terhadap logam berat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menghitung seberapa besar efisiensi removal logam Zn dengan menggunakan mangrove Avicennia marina dan Rhizopora apiculeta, serta menentukan jenis mangrove yang paling baik.
Pada metode penelitian ini digunakan dua variabel penelitian. Variabel pertama yaitu jenis mangrove Avicennia marina dan Rhizopora apiculeta. Variabel kedua yaitu konsentrasi polutan larutan artifisial ZnSO4 setelah dilakukan uji pendahuluan Range Finding Test yaitu 100 mg/L, 200 mg/L dan 300 mg/L dengan pengulangan tiga kali/triplo. Pada penelitian ini digunakan peralatan reaktor skala laboratorium dengan sistem batch.
Hasil penelitian untuk tanaman Avicennia marina pada konsentrasi 100 mg/L menghasilkan sebesar 79,83%. Pada konsentrasi 200 mg/L sebesar 70,75% dan pada konsentrasi 300 mg/L sebesar 67,17%. Sedangkan untuk tanaman Rhizopora apiculeta pada konsentrasi 100 mg/L menghasilkan efisiensi removal sebesar 89,83%. Pada konsentrasi 200 mg/L sebesar 84,92% dan konsentrasi 300 mg/L sebesar 74,94%. Tanaman mangrove Rhizopora apiculeta mempunyai efisiensi removal yang lebih baik dibandingkan Avicennia marina.

Mangrove forests in Indonesia, especially Java, keeps experiencing degradation, all because of purpose conversion like pond fishery, mangrove logging, and the general lack of awareness in the people about the forests’ ecological function, as well as the uncertainness about the area status. The balance of ecological environment in beach area will be maintained if the mangrove is being protected, because it functions as biofilter, restricting agent, and also pollution trapper. It catches pollutant source and has high tolerance of heavy metal. The purpose of this study is to calculate the efficiency of Zn metal removal by using Avicennia marina and Rhizopora apiculeta, and to determine the best type of mangrove.
In this research method used two types of variables. The first variable is Avicennia marina and Rhizopora apiculeta. The second variable is the concentration of ZnSO4 solution of pollutant after preliminary test of Range Finding Test that is 100 mg/L, 200 mg/L and 300 mg/L with triplo. In this study, laboratory based experiment is used with batch system.
Based on the study result, removal efficiency of the mangrove Avicennia marina in concentration of 100 mg/L is, 79,83%. In concentration 200mg/L it is 70,75%, and 300 mg/L is 67,17%. While for Rhizopora apiculeta, in concentration of 100 mg/L is 89,83%, in concentration 200 mg/L is 84,92%, and concentration of 300 mg/L is 74,94%. Rhizopora apiculeta mangrove plant has better removal efficiency than Avicennia marina.
