Abstract

Sintesis serbuk ZrSiO4 menggunakan bahan-bahan prekursor komersial serbuk ZrCl4 (zirkonium klorid) dan larutan TEOS (tetraethylorthosilicate) telah selesai dilakukan. Sintesis meliputi pemberian aktivasi mekanik dengan penggilingan menggunakan Planetary Ball Mill dan penambahan PVA sebagai katalisator lalu dikalsinasi pada temperatur 900-1300 C dengan waktu penahanan 10 jam. Karakterisasi dengan X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) dilakukan untuk mengetahui kadar unsur yang terkandung di dalam sampel. Karakterisasi fasa dilakukan dengan difraksi sinar-X kemudian dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Analisis kuantitatif menunjukkan terbentuk fasa zirkonia tetragonal dengan komposisi fasa 100% pada temperatur kalsinasi 900-1100 C dengan ukuran kristal 4 nm, 7 nm, dan 18 nm, kemudian terbentuk fasa tunggal zirkon pada temperatur kalsinasi 1200 C dengan ukuran kristal 170 nm, dan zirkon mengalami dekomposisi pada temperatur 1300 C menjadi 93% fasa zirkon, 3% fasa zirkonia tetragonal dan 4% fasa kristobalit rendah, dengan ukuran kristal pada masing-masing fasa, yaitu 80 nm, 91 nm, dan 33 nm. Uji SEM menampilkan mikrografi pertumbuhan ukuran butir pada serbuk.

The synthesis of ZrSiO4 powder using commercial precursor materials of ZrCl4 powder (zirconium chloride) and TEOS (tetraethylorthosilicate) solutions has been completed. The synthesis includes implicating mechanical activation by a milling prosess using Planetary Ball Mill, adding PVA as the catalyst and being calcined at the temperatur 900-1300 C with holfing time in 10 hour. Characterization by X-Ray Flourescence (XRF) is performed to determine the element levels contained in the sample. Phase characterization is done by doing the X-rays diffraction then analyzing it qualitatively and quantitatively. Quantitative analysis shows that a formation of tetragonal zirconia phase emerged with 100% phase composition at 900-1100 C calcination temperature with crystal sizes of 4 nm, 7 nm, and 18 nm, a formation of single phase zircon also emerged at 1200 C calcination temperature with 170 nm crystal size, and a zircon decomposed from 1300 C to 93% of zircon phase, 3% tetragonal zirconia phase, and 4% low-cristobalite phase with the crystal size at each phase are 80 nm, 91 nm, and 33 nm. The SEM results the micrographiz growth of grain size on powder.
