Abstract

Spring rod merupakan bagian komponen dari Coal mill yang berfungsi sebagai tempat penggilingan batubara. Spring rod berfungsi untuk menahan getaran dari grinding roller yang berputar menggiling batu bara. Komponen spring rod merupakan batang berulir yang tersambung ke sistem hydraulic. Dalam penelitian ini, dilakukan analisa penyebab terjadinya kegagalan pada spring rod di coal mill dengan tujuan menganalisa faktor penyebab dan mekanisme terjadinya kegagalan komponen spring rod dalam spring suspension assembly pada coal mill. Pengujian yang akan dilakukan untuk menganalisa kegagalan ini adalah uji komposisi, pengamatan makroskopik, uji mikroskopik, dan uji kekerasan. Setelah dilakukan pengujian tersebut didapatkan faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya kegagalan komponen spring rod pada coal mill Tuban 1 yaitu kesalahan pemilihan material dan kesalahan perlakuan panas. Mekanisme kegagalan komponen spring rod pada coal mill Tuban 1 diawali oleh initial crack pada akar gigi pada ulir dikarenakan adanya tegangan yang berulang yang kemudian retakan merambat pada permukaan spring rod sebelum terjadinya final fracture dikarenakan spring rod tidak mampu menahan tegangan yang terjadi sehingga menyebabkan fatigue failure.

Spring rod is a part of component in Coal Mill, that has a
function as a place for milling or grinding the coal. Coal Mill in
PT. Semen Indonesia is using vertical roller mill type. Spring rod
has a function to resist the vibration from grinding roller.
Grinding roller is a part that has a function to grinding the coal.
Spring rod component is a threaded rod and connecting with
hydraulic system. Spring rod in Coal Mill Tuban I has been
worked for 10 years. This final project will analyse failure factor
of the spring rod in Coal Mill Tuban I in purpose to analysing
causing factor and mechanism in spring rod failure in Coal Mill
Tuban I. Tests that carrying out this material is composition test,
macroscopic observation, metallographic, and hardness test.
Factors that causing spring rod failure are material selection
error and heat treatment error. Mechanism of spring rod failure
in Coal Mill Tuban I was began with initial crack at the edge of
spring because of cyclic stress. Then the crack was propagating
on the surface of spring rod and then the final fracture happened
because spring rod cannot endure the stress, so that was causing
fatigue failure.
