Abstract

Almost 60 percent of combustion result as waste heat on the cooling system, and exhaust gas, more than 35 percent of all thermal energy loss on the exhaust system. Waste heat can be recovered into another energy or known as waste heat recovery system for example using Thermoelectric Generator, because the heat in the exhaust gas has a temperature reaching 300 Centigrade. In this study to maximize the energy absorption of heat from the exhaust gas in this study discussed the effect of the use of fins on the exhaust pipe to increasing heat transfer by simulation using CFD, simulation using 3 models ie modules without fins, modules with fins 64 pieces and a 25-mm fin length and 32 fin modules with a fin length of 50 mm. The results of the simulation analysis show that there is heat absorbed by the higher finned exhaust pipes than the flue-free flue gas, shown in the main engine load of 100% outer wall temperature of 461 K while using the average fin 550 K. The heat transfer is also Influenced by exhaust gas flow velocity, in finned exhaust pipes having a higher speed than without fins. The flow velocity in the flue gas pipe is 40 m / s while the 32 fins and 64 fins have a flow rate of 44 m / s and 49 m / s. The addition of fins also increases the pressure drop from 0.18 kPa to 1.1 kPa to 64 fins and 1.9 kPa to 32 fins
