Abstract

Education is very important to improve the quality of human resources. One of the programs undertaken by the government to improve the level of education in Indonesia is the Program of Indonesia Smart (PIP) through 12 years compulsory education. But in reality, the dropout rate in Indonesia is still high especially in high school education level. The high school dropout rates in Indonesia in 2016 reaches 4.98 percent. This figure is quite high when compared with other age groups. The high school dropout rate in Indonesia is caused by many factors. Therefore, the researcher conducts a research in the form of modeling to determine the factors that influence the high school dropout rates in Indonesia. In this research, there are four factors that allegedly affect of high school dropout rates in Indonesia. The method used to model the high school drop-out rate and the factors that allegedly influence it is non-parametric Spline regression. Methods are selected because the Pattern of the relationship between high school dropout rates in Indonesia with factors that allegedly influence does not form a particular pattern. The results of this study indicate that the best non-parametric Spline regression model is using three of knots with 2 significant variables that is the percentage of high school teachers toward the students and the average length of school of people aged 15 years and over. The value of R2 obtained is equal to 78,74%.
