Abstract

Density cities both of high and low-elevated in Indonesia were increasing. The condition has impacted on the change of green open spaces into building areas that triggered the increase of pollution production. The purposes of this study were determined the effect of green open spaces (GOS) on the troposphere Nitrogen dioxide (NO2), GOS to surface temperature, and surface temperature to NO2 troposphere in thirty cities in Indonesia from 2007 to 2016.
Data processing in this study is based on satellite imagery. The satellites imagery used were Terra MODIS for Earth surface temperature data, MetOP-A GOME for NO2 troposphere data, and Google Earth for GOS data. Statistical analysis used is Structural Equation Model-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) with indicator variables were percentage of GOS, earth surface temperature, NO2 concentration, elevation, and city position toward equator.
The average annual rate of GOS decreased by 14.65%, NO2 troposphere concentration increased by 18.49%, and the temperature increased 0.7%. GOS had a significant effect on the decrease of NO2 troposphere and surface temperature in sequence are coefficient -0.068, R2= 21% and -0.557 R2= 36%, . The higher GOS, the surface temperature and NO2 troposphere were getting smaller. The temperature variable had significant effect and was directly proportional to NO2 troposphere. Other variables that significantly affect NO2 troposphere were surface temperatures and city positions against equator that were directly proportional and elevations that was inversely proportional to NO2 troposphere. Other variables that had significant effect on surface temperature are position and elevation of city. Elevation was inversely proportional and the position of latitude towards the equator was directly proportional to the urban surface temperature.
