Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan teknologi sintesis dietil karbonat dari karbon dioksida (CO2), etanol, dan agen pendehidrasi. Agen pendehidrasi yang akan digunakan adalah etilen oksida dan butilen oksida, menggunakan katalis potassium iodide (KI), natrium etoksida (EtONa) dan zeolite. Eksperimen dilakukan dengan peralatan yang telah dikembangkan, di laboratorium Termodinamika, berupa reaktor silindris dengan volume 34.577 cm3, panjang 20 cm, dan diameter 1.905 cm yang dilengkapi jaket pemanas, indikator tekanan, controller temperatur, dan buffer tank. Reaktan (etanol, agen dehidrasi dan CO2) dan katalis (KI, EtONa, zeolite) dimasukkan ke dalam reaktor sesuai variable yang ditetapkan, kemudian mengatur kondisi operasi alat sesuai yang telah ditetapkan. Waktu reaksi dimulai saat semua kondisi operasi alat telah tercapai. Komposisi dari sampel liquid dianalisa secara kualitatif menggunakan Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrofotometry dan secara kuantitatif menggunakan Gas Chromatography. Pengaruh terhadap hasil reaksi, dari agen pendehidrasi, waktu reaksi, jenis katalis (KI EtONa / KI Zeolit), telah dikaji pada tekanan reaktor 30 ± 5 bar dan temperatur 170 ± 5oC. Dari hasil eksperimen, diketahui telah terbentuk dietil karbonat dengan yield tertinggi sebesar 20.79 %, dengan agen pendehidrasi butilen oksida dan menggunakan perbandingan massa katalis KI-Zeolite yaitu 1:3, waktu reaksi 5 jam.

This study aims to expand synthesis technology diethyl carbonate from carbon dioxide (CO2), ethanol, and dehydrating agents. Dehydrating agent use is ethylene oxide and butylene oxide, using catalyst potassium iodide (KI), Sodium Ethoxide (EtONa) and zeolite in this work. The experiment has been developed in Thermodynamic Laboratories conducted on 34.577 cm3 cylindrical reactor, 20 cm on length and 1.905 cm on diameter equipped with heat exchanger jacketed, indicator pressure, temperature controller and buffer tank. Reactants (carbon dioxide, agent dehydration, ethanol) and catalysts (KI, EtONa, zeolite) were added to the reactor according specified variables, then set condition operation according to a predetermined. The reaction time begins when all operating conditions of the device have been reached. The synthesized DEC, in liquid phases, was analyzed qualitatively using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometry and quantitatively using Gas Chromatography. The effect of molar ratio of dehydrating agent, reaction time, type of catalysts (KI EtONa / KI Zeolite), was operated at pressure of (30 ± 5) bar and temperature of (170 ± 5) oC. From the experimental results, it is known that the highest yield of diethyl carbonate product obtained was found to be 20.79 %, with agent dehydration is butylene oxide , and using mass comparison catalysts KI-Zeolite is 1:3, 5 hours of reaction time.
